Ohashi got her start in music when she joined a band while she was at Hokkaido University.
Inspired by such artists like Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 and Janice Joplin, Ohashi hoped to add soulful singing to her music. She later became a DJ at a local radio station before having a part-time job at the Yamada Headquarters in Tokyo.
There, she auditioned for a chance to release music and won a record deal.
In 1974, Ohashi made her debut with the album Feeling Now and the single "Kagi wa Kaeshite". Her second album, Paper Moon, helped to gain Ohashi some popularity. But it wasn't till 1977 with the single "Simple Love" that Ohashi gained a smash hit. Throughout the late 70s and 80s, a couple of her singles also became big hits.

アスファルトゆがんだ道に 熱い陽射し影を落として
(WOO FASCINATION)
(WOO FASCINATION)
(WOO FASCINATION)
The lyrics of 大橋純子's song ハートに火をつけて evoke a sense of yearning and desire for freedom and self-discovery amidst the bustling urban landscape. The imagery of overflowing car lines and screeching tires set the scene of a chaotic city environment, with the asphalt roads warped by the heat of the sun casting shadows. It conveys a feeling of restlessness and seeking amidst the daily grind, as individuals under the same sky search for connections and encounters that may bring them fulfillment. The sunset over the buildings symbolizes the passing of time and the transient nature of life in the city.
The chorus "ああ ハートに火をつけて" ("Ah, ignite a fire in my heart") expresses a yearning for passion and immediacy, a desire to break free from constraints and truly find oneself. The lyrics speak of the need to look within and discover one's true self amid the changing landscapes and city lights that mark the passage of time. The references to nostalgic and bittersweet memories of love add depth to the longing for a renewed sense of freedom and authenticity in life.
The verses describe the evolving cityscape and the beauty found in the changing scenery, with a sense of nostalgia and wistfulness conveyed through the imagery of dancing lights on building windows and the counting of stars in the night sky. The themes of chasing dreams, wandering in search of love, and holding onto precious memories are interwoven with the desire for self-realization and living life on one's own terms, away from societal expectations and pressures.
The repetition of the chorus throughout the song underscores the central theme of igniting a fire in one's heart to pursue dreams, seek freedom, and embrace the unknown with excitement and anticipation. The imagery of stars falling in the night sky enveloping the listener in a sense of wonder and vastness, symbolizing the experience of carrying the weight of the world's complexities while striving for personal growth and emotional fulfillment. Overall, the song captures a blend of passion, nostalgia, and a quest for self-discovery within the confines of a bustling city, urging listeners to awaken their hearts, embrace freedom, and chase after their dreams with a sense of excitement and purpose.
