Same as Jeff Schreifels, I don't know the first three singers ... BABYMETAL on the other hand - they are the most successful Japanese band internationally, they have a huge fan base all around the world and you won't find another band quite like them. You clearly missed them when they toured Europe last February including 4 dates in the UK (Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and the Hammersmith Apollo in London) ... and when they were the first Japanese band ever to headline Wembley Arena in 2016.

They celebrated their 10th anniversary last October - and they are still only 23 and 21 now. They were aged 12 and 11 when they started in 2010 ... the 'Gimme Chocolate' video was filmed at a show the day after the lead singer's 16th birthday in December 2013 - she was born in 1997 so the show was called Legend 1997 (that will come up in future videos if you choose to do more).
Lead singer is Su-metal, the two younger girls, Yuimetal and Moametal, were 14 in this video. As this was the official video it had the studio audio dubbed over the live footage even though it was filmed at a live show ... they actually sound better live.
Sadly Yui left in Octeber 2018 for ongoing health reasons - she last appeared in October 2017. Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo and in live shows now they are supported by one of three girls called the Avengers who dance in the third spot (they are Kano, Riho and Momoko, but it is possible Riho and Kano have left for their own new projects as Momoko has done the last 18 performances).

Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons:
- to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal - kawaii means cute)
- because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun):
BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)

They have about 50 songs and every one of them is different. 'Gimme Chocolate' has most views because of the WTF reactions it gets, so it is the one people send to their friends etc - it really doesn't come anywhere near being their best song (but you can ask 50 BABYMETAL fans which song is best and you'll get over 30 different answers).
It is one of their fun songs - they just want a bit of chocolate, but they're worried about their weight ... but it is chocolate and it would be so nice and they would be so happy, so can they have a piece please. They have many songs that are a lot deeper and more meaningful, but there is no harm in having a bit of fun with metal once in a while.

I don't know your musical tastes in general, but I suspect you might like their latest single 'BxMxC'. Every artist no matter what genre deserves to have a "WTH is this" song or two. I get what you're saying, but I can't get over the fact that Utada writes all of her own music (as well as composing most of it). It's a charm of Utada's that I wouldn't want hindered for the sake of western ratings. I get that she wants to go mainstream, but it's not her strongest point. This is a long shot, but I would think that her R&B/soft pop-like songs (kind of like the ones she did in First Love) could do her well here in the west

She's not the talk of the moment ofc, but she certainly left a deep presence/mark in the Japanese music industry. I think we can settle at that; I think that's good enough to attract listeners to Hikki. Also, it's quite inevitable for her sales to decrease after her peak. Isn't that a general trend if we're speaking ULTRA BLUE sales and beyond? Plus, physical sales aren't what it used to be with exceptions to like AKB48 q_q. Either way, peak popularity doesn't stay forever.

I am from Singapore and love Utada's music. I also do some original song compositions myself. "Shinpai Shinaide" was composed after hearing Utada's songs and the inspiration hit me. It’s a shame she never could crack the American market. Listeners were used to packaged pop stars like Britney Spears and such, not somebody like Utada Hikaru whose spirit infused everything she works on. She wrote or co-wrote all the songs on Exodus, which remains a hugely underrated album with bangers up and down.

Wasn't her best song, but her voice is still amazing I'm just sitting here laughing my ass of at all the people who are by the pool, in bathing suites, huddling under umbrellas cause they don't wanna get wet.

It was from a failed attempt to break into the American market. Most fans don't even acknowledge the existence of this embarrassing album. Most of these songs were written for her, not by her.

@stealthmonkey91 she literally wrote most of the songs in exodus including this song. Even though it was one of her first English releases it was also an experimental album so it didn’t actually have a ton of mass appeal, & it wasn’t promoted very well & never gained a ton of attention, that doesn’t mean most people think it’s shit it means most people don’t know it exists. If you don’t like it you can just say that

Well, I was listening to some R & B, even the popular R & B/Hip-hop/party tracks, which in this song I think she was aiming for here (maybe even pop).... and I think the challenge of writing and composing for a different audience than what she was used to would strengthen her writing ability, and not necessarily sacrifice any of her charm. I mean, sometimes you just gotta push yourself. Latoya Luckett came out of a group that was basically just about Beyonce, and she's finally made it, see?

Just Because she is japan doesnt mean no one will like her she cute, a awesome singer, and has the theme song for one of my favorite games Alot of people would like to be with her
