Before entering the entertainment business, she was a registered nurse at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Hong Kong. She studied at the Kowloon Holy Family Canossian College. She entered the entertainment industry after coming in third in the TVB 14th annual New Talent Singing Awards competition in 1995, and has steadily gained popularity ever since.
Miriam is now managed by East Asia, after previously being contracted with Capitol Artists, Cinepoly Records, Gold Label and Amusic.
As a singer, Miriam has had many songs that have been mainstream hits and award winners, such as "Pity I'm an Aquarius", "Maiden's prayer", "Sisters" and "Small City and Big Issue". "Small City and Big Issue" and "Maiden's Prayer" have won "Best Song of The Year Award" in 2004 and 2000. She has also won "Most popular female singer", "My favourite female singer", and "Female Singer Golden award", which further attest to her huge popularity.
Early in her career her songs had the view point of a young lady. However, in the last few years, Miriam describes her songs as having matured very much.

應該只有以上幾句比較有共鳴吧！開頭那些歌詞很多是無關的,大家不要過份詮釋。他有沒有喜歡過我都成問題,什麼移情別戀的與我無關(我要罵渣男就直接罵,我不會藏著掖著,不罵即是「這不是核心問題」)我只是知道Sounds right和其他所有情歌講的都是謊言,Sounds 10說的還比較靠譜一點;我只知道由2020年暑假等到2022年,說好的10月呢？說好的11月呢？說好的12月呢？我只知道在我快要被人掃地出門之時,他還去巡演、錄專輯、錄綜藝節目。
