Beware Do We Go
(hed) Planet Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh man it seems like yesterday when I bought you a drink and I asked you your name
The little girl with the punk rock face and the sadness in her eyes
But we both know that people change pack their things and move away
Now I don't care what the neighbors say
Hey DJ find a record let the music play come on

So where do we go from here
Cause it seems so hopeless
I just want to make a difference
But I can't seem to find my focus

Oh man it seems like yesterday when I first drove you home in my stock Chevrolet
The little girls is all grown up and now gasoline is like four bucks
But the sadness it still remains cause the time will fly but let the people change
And I still don't care what the neighbors say
DJ find a record let the music play come on

So where do we go from here
Cause it seems so hopeless
I just want to make a difference
But I can't seem to find my focus

So where do we go from here
Cause it seems so hopeless
I just want to make a difference
But I can't seem to find my focus

When the streets get dark in the beach front city
Get out, Get out, Get out
You see the sun go down on the quiet town
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
You fall asleep to the traffic on the boulevard

Now the words spoke, the silence broken
Now the words spoke, the silence broken
Now

The American moonlight plays on the left step freak (?)
My ventures play in the Chevrolet
I don't care about your face or the money you make
I buy a rebel flag like the Southern States
I work all day and every day I got my house shows on and my bills are paid
I need a punk rock girl and a chronic eight
DJ spin my record let the music play come on

So where do we go from here
Cause it seems so hopeless
I just want to make a difference
But I can't seem to find my focus

So where do we go from here
Cause it seems so hopeless
I just want to make a difference
But I can't seem to find my focus

When the streets get dark in the beach front city
Get out, Get out, Get out
You see the sun go down on the quiet town
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
You fall asleep to the traffic on the boulevard

Now the words spoke, the silence broken
Now the words spoke, the silence broken

Overall Meaning

The song "Beware Do We Go" by (hed) Planet Earth is a reflection on the passage of time, the fear of being stuck in a hopeless situation, and the search for purpose. The lyrics describe the singer's memories of a girl with a punk rock face and sad eyes whom he met years ago, and how time has changed them both. The girl is now all grown up, and gasoline is more expensive, but the sadness still remains. The singer mentions not caring what the neighbors say and wanting the DJ to find a record and play some music, which could be interpreted as him trying to escape the mundanity of everyday life.

The chorus of the song repeats the question "where do we go from here?" which implies that the singer is lost and searching for direction. He expresses a desire to make a difference but is struggling to find his focus. The lyrics suggest a feeling of hopelessness, but the beat of the song is catchy and upbeat, which could be seen as a way of dealing with difficult emotions.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become more metaphorical. The singer describes a beachfront city where the streets get dark, and the sun goes down on a quiet town. He falls asleep to the traffic on the boulevard. The words "now the words spoke, the silence broken" are repeated several times towards the end of the song, which could be interpreted as a call to action. The singer wants to break the silence and make a change but doesn't know how.

Overall, "Beware Do We Go" is a song about the passage of time, the fear of being stuck in a hopeless situation, and the search for purpose. The singer is lost and searching for direction but is struggling to find his focus. The song's catchy beat could be seen as a way of dealing with difficult emotions.

"I just want to make a difference, but I can't seem to find my focus."
Jesus Christ, this resonates so much. Especially the second verse. My (ex) girlfriend who got me into Hed Pe. I lived in southern Denver at the southwest corner, I would meet her wherever, and drive 90 miles back to fort Collins to take her home. We'd blast System, Hed PE, all classic heavy metal and classic rap records blasting at 2am at her house. Chain smoking on that black fucking Persian rug. I really fucked up with that girl. Everytime I listen to this record, and this song in particular kinda just think back and say "ugh, man. Where did I go wrong."
Moral of the story kids :
If you love somebody, don't fuck it up. If you're not over an unresolved issue, fix it. Don't linger. Cuz once you fuck up a few times, they're gone. And you're left with less to nothing. The other message, listen to underground punk rock and be yourself.
