The band was formed by rapper Jared Gomes, also known as "M.C.U.D." (MC Underdog), and guitarist Wes Geer, who became friends amidst the Orange County hardcore punk scene. Gomes and Geer recruited guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C. Vaught and DJ Product © 1969. They named the group "Hed", which stands for "higher education". The band built a following with their energetic performances at local venues, and released the self-financed extended play, Church of Realities. Legal issues forced Hed to change their name, adding PE, which stood for Planet Earth.
Band members;

Half The Man
(hed) Planet Earth Lyrics

And the ones who would destroy you
Caught between the sunlight,
And the night that came before you
Caught between the madness and confusion of deception
You just close your eyes.
I can't help noticing the fear that's in your eyes.
Why do I feel this way
I can barely stand up straight
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
Every dog has its day
I can barely stand the wait
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
Caught between the streets you love,
And the other side of time
Caught between your new interest,
And the one you left behind
Caught between the madness and confusion of deception
You just close your eyes.
I can't help noticing the fear that's in your eyes.
Why do I feel this way
I can barely stand up straight
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
Every dog has its day
I can barely stand the wait
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
I've wasted so much time
I've wasted half my life
They tried to take away my life, x2
Caught between the Milky Way,
And the other side of time
Caught between your new best friend,
And the one you left behind
Caught between the madness and confusion of deception
You just close your eyes.
I can't help noticing the fear that's in your eyes.
Why do I feel this way
I can barely stand up straight
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
Every dog has its day
I can barely stand the wait
Just take a good look at me
Now I'm about half the man
Just half the man.
I've wasted so much time
I've wasted half my life
They tried to take away my life. x2
The lyrics to (hed) Planet Earth's song Half The Man express a sense of feeling trapped and caught between different things in life. The opening lines portray the idea of being caught between loved ones and those who seek to harm you, as well as being caught between light and darkness or good and evil. The listener is presented with an image of someone who is lost or confused and can only close their eyes to try and find a way out of their situation.
The chorus of the song contains the repeated refrain "Why do I feel this way, I can barely stand up straight, just take a good look at me, now I'm about half the man." This can be interpreted as a sense of feeling broken or incomplete, as if something or someone has taken away a part of who they are. This feeling is reinforced in the second verse, where the sense of being caught between different sides of life is expressed again, and the language becomes more direct, with the lines "I've wasted so much time, I've wasted half my life."
Overall, the song Half The Man expresses a sense of being lost or trapped, feeling broken or incomplete, and struggling to find a way forward. The repeated refrain throughout the song creates a sense of a spiraling or cyclical struggle, as if the character in the song is stuck in a cycle of confusion and pain.
