Other Side
(hed) Planet Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In Southern Mexico
You forget just why you came
You run to Northern California
But, you forget to change your name
But, when I get to New York City
It won't matter none of this will change
Ten thousand miles and running
All these songs will remain the same.

Just take your time
Your life is just beginning
You are all grown up
Wanting for the other side.
Just take you time
I will always be there waiting
On the other side
Wanting for the other side.

Inside my worried mind
I wonder why I'm here
And all the questions that I ask myself
The answers are never clear
I can't believe that it's all over
I don't know where to begin
I've got to outrun these shadows
Feel the sun on my face again, my friend.

Just take your time
Your life is just beginning
You are all grown up
Wanting for the other side.
Just take you time
I will always be there waiting
On the other side
Wanting for the other side.

I thought I knew them
I thought they were my friends
Well I must be crazy
It never ends, x2
No, we are not the same
We are so far apart
And the distance felt between us
Is in the heart, you know it's true.

Just take your time
Your life is just beginning
You are all grown up
Wanting for the other side.
Just take you time
I will always be there waiting
On the other side
Wanting for the other side.

Just take your time. x6

Overall Meaning

The (hed) Planet Earth song, "Other Side," explores themes of identity, belonging, and the search for meaning. The lyrics reference different locations - Southern Mexico, Northern California, and New York City - suggesting that the singer is constantly searching for a place where they feel they truly belong. This is further emphasized by the lines "You forget to change your name" and "I don't know where to begin" which suggest a feeling of being lost or disconnected from oneself.

The chorus, "Just take your time, your life is just beginning," provides a sense of optimism and encouragement. The singer acknowledges that their journey is ongoing and that there is no clear path or easy answers. However, they assure the listener that they will always be there waiting, signaling a bond of support and understanding.

The final verse touches on a feeling of disillusionment with people who were once trusted, as well as a sense of distance and isolation. The line "No, we are not the same, we are so far apart" suggests a rupture in a relationship, either with individuals or with society at large. Despite this, the song ends on a hopeful note, with the message to take one's time and to keep moving forward.

jimbo jones Here are the outcomes in my opinion (Source:my logic)

1) Intelligent life and "not-so" intelligent life: Most likely the two planets / planet and moon, will have very different life on them. One of them will reach intelligent life forms first, and that life form will discover the other place and occupy it. By the time intelligent life forms on the other "earth" evolve, it will be nothing unexpected, as it is a long and gradual process (we can experience the same, if we allow another species to become intelligent like us right here on our Earth - I don't see this to be a fairytail - but it needs a lot of time).

2) Both planets have intelligent life and one discovers the other. WAR - the more technologically (or something else?) advanced species will win the battle and get the resources and space of the other planet for themselves.

3) Both have intelligent life and don't want to fight, but are excited and decide to live together. Will be exciting for one or two, maybe three generations, then the kids will be born in such a world and it will become just as normal as a single planet. The history books will be fun, though! =D
I can see lot of problems with "speci-ism" too! =D

Meh, not very exciting.

My favorite sci-fi version of this was Lexx season 3 and 4, with the planets Fire and Water orbiting each other at Earth's L3. They were the physical manifestation of Heaven and Hell for the Earth, to which they were supernaturally connected. It was a very weird sci-fi show.

Hey Fraser, how does the the subtle nudging of our planet from others, and the fluctuation of our orbital velocity effect the length of our year? Im assuming overtime it would have a relatively noticeable one.

@wikizardian

It's amazing that some people thought of such possibility.

Mr. Cain, I thoroughly enjoyed your video.  It reminds me of a movie I adored many years ago, with the mysterious and fabulous story of a doppelgänger planet on the opposite side of the planet from earth.  The movie is "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun", a 1969 Universal Studio production.  Have you seen this movie?  This film absolutely captured my tender imagination at the time, I must have watched it three or four times, transfixed!

@toniwilson1739

Hi, great channel. Have you done a show on what would happen if two black holes collided?
