For taking the easy way out
Got a good reason
For taking the easy way out now
She was a day tripper
One way ticket, yeah
It took me so long to find out
And I found out
She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there
She's a big teaser
She took me half the way there, now
She was a day tripper
One way ticket, yeah
It took me so long to find out
And I found out
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Tried to please her
She only played one night stand
Tried to please her
She only played one night stand, now
She was a day tripper
Sunday driver, yeah
It took me so long to find out
And I found out
Day tripper, day tripper, yeah
Day tripper, day tripper, yeah
Day tripper, day tripper, yeah
The lyrics of Day Tripper by 1964 The Tribute speak of a woman who is a day tripper and a big teaser who took the singer halfway there. The singer claims to have a good reason for taking the easy way out and tried to please her but she only played a one-night stand. It took the singer a long time to find out about her true nature, but he finally did. The repetition of the chorus "day tripper, yeah" emphasizes the woman's lack of commitment and her penchant for short-term relationships.
The lyrics are a commentary on the swinging culture of the 60s when casual hookups and one-night stands were becoming acceptable. The woman being described in the song is not interested in anything serious, only in fleeting moments of pleasure. The singer, who is trying to have a meaningful relationship with her, eventually realizes her true nature and decides to take the easy way out.
The song is also accompanied by an energetic guitar riff that reinforces the sense of urgency and excitement of the swinging culture. The repetition of the chorus "day tripper, yeah" also makes it memorable and easy to sing along to.
