Prior to the formation of 88GLAM and following the disbanding of their former group coined "Get Home Safe Crew" with Jazz Cartier, both Derek Wise and 88 Camino had been releasing music separately. Wise and 88 Camino remained in touch and collaborated frequently and previously worked together on the tracks "Anuva Wun" as a single by 88 Camino and "I Can Tell" from Wise's 2017 debut album Inglorious. Wise and Camino began teasing their collaborative project during the summer of 2017.
The duo introduced the name "88GLAM" on November 1, 2017, premiering their first music video "12" via Billboard which featured a cameo from The Weeknd. This was followed by the release of another music video for "Bali" featuring NAV and the debut of their self-titled mixtape 88GLAM on November 7, 2017.
On April 20, 2018, four new tracks were added to 88GLAM and re-released as 88GLAM RELOADED by XO Records and Republic Records. Introducing a new remix to the duo's platinum-certified record Bali with NAV now featuring 2 Chainz.
On November 8, 2018, 88GLAM released a new single titled "Lil Boat" from their upcoming album titled 88GLAM2.
On November 15, 2018, 88GLAM released 88GLAM2 under XO Records and Republic Records with new features from Gunna on their song titled "Racks", as well as another feature from NAV on "It's a Flex". Following its release, 88GLAM2 debuted at #8 on iTunes All-Genre Chart, then at #6 on the iTunes' Hip Hop Chart and also landed itself a top five spot in Spotify's Canada's New Music Friday playlist.
On August 26, 2022, 88GLAM released their final album, Close To Heaven Far From God. This would mark the end of 88GLAM, with Derek and Camino going separate ways.

I'm a young rockstar on the stage, pussy nigga might just catch this f-, yeah
Hop out that Wraith like DA, yeah, tell me you wanna speedrace, yeah
Hop out that Wraith like DA, yeah, tell me you wanna speedrace
Gotta get cake now (cake now)
Baguettes on my Cuban link, I'm wearin' a lake now (lake now)
Shooter go ring, ring, ring, the ones that stayed down (ones that stayed down)
Stay attached with no strings, I put him in rank now (put him in rank, yeah)
Drop the top, let the moon come in (come in)
Drivin' to the top, we got some moves to make (got some moves to make)
Wearin' all my chains, I feel like Boos' today (like Boos' today, yeah, yeah)
Rackaid in my hand, I got the blues today (got the blues today)
Gave that ho the curve, she back like boomerang (back like boomerang)
I done fucked up and I put 'em on shelf, I done ran up the whole check by myself
Got me a new bitch that come by herself, girlfriend she bringin' just eat it like kale
Fuck her so good that she kiss and she tell, gettin' this head, but I need me some tail
Hammer on me, but I don't need a nail, diamonds, they blindin', they feelin' like braille
I'm a young rockstar on the stage, that's when I'm rocking Cartier
I'm a young rockstar on the stage, pussy nigga might just catch this f-, yeah
Hop out that Wraith like DA, yeah, tell me you wanna speedrace, yeah

In the lyrics of 88GLAM's song "Barry Bonds," the artist addresses the criticism and backlash he has faced for evolving and stepping into his own success. He acknowledges that people have accused him of changing and switching up, but he confidently asserts that they now recognize his talent and presence as he shines brightly in the spotlight. The mention of being slept on for days emphasizes a period of being overlooked or underestimated, but now, they have emerged victorious and are thriving. The imagery of letting others out of their cages only to be bitten now suggests that despite offering opportunities or support to others, there may be betrayal or negative consequences.
The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the artist's identity as a young rockstar on the stage, exuding confidence and charisma. The references to Cartier jewelry symbolize luxury and success, further enhancing the rockstar image. The defiance in the line "pussy nigga might just catch this f-β conveys a sense of boldness and readiness to confront any challenges or detractors. The mention of hopping out of a Wraith, a luxury car model, and referencing DA (District Attorney) and speed racing add a thrilling and rebellious edge to the lyrics, highlighting a carefree and daring attitude.
The lyrics also delve into themes of wealth and status, with references to acquiring money (getting cake now) and flaunting expensive jewelry like baguettes on a Cuban link. The shooter in the lyrics represents loyalty and the ones who have stayed by the artist's side, remaining loyal through thick and thin. The mention of being attached with no strings but putting someone in rank suggests a balance between independence and maintaining relationships. The imagery of driving to the top and wearing chains like Boosie, a successful rapper, symbolizes ambition and a drive for success in the competitive music industry.
The final verse delves deeper into themes of relationships and indulgence, with references to intimate encounters and material possessions. The artist boasts about his abilities in the bedroom and his lavish lifestyle, with imagery of diamonds blinding like braille, highlighting the opulence and luxury surrounding him. The mention of getting a new partner and advancing in his career while enjoying the finer things in life reflects a sense of self-assuredness and satisfaction in his accomplishments. Overall, the lyrics of "Barry Bonds" portray a narrative of triumph over adversity, exuding confidence, and embracing a rockstar persona while navigating the complexities of success and fame in the music industry.
