Prior to the formation of 88GLAM and following the disbanding of their former group coined "Get Home Safe Crew" with Jazz Cartier, both Derek Wise and 88 Camino had been releasing music separately. Wise and 88 Camino remained in touch and collaborated frequently and previously worked together on the tracks "Anuva Wun" as a single by 88 Camino and "I Can Tell" from Wise's 2017 debut album Inglorious. Wise and Camino began teasing their collaborative project during the summer of 2017.
The duo introduced the name "88GLAM" on November 1, 2017, premiering their first music video "12" via Billboard which featured a cameo from The Weeknd. This was followed by the release of another music video for "Bali" featuring NAV and the debut of their self-titled mixtape 88GLAM on November 7, 2017.
On April 20, 2018, four new tracks were added to 88GLAM and re-released as 88GLAM RELOADED by XO Records and Republic Records. Introducing a new remix to the duo's platinum-certified record Bali with NAV now featuring 2 Chainz.
On November 8, 2018, 88GLAM released a new single titled "Lil Boat" from their upcoming album titled 88GLAM2.
On November 15, 2018, 88GLAM released 88GLAM2 under XO Records and Republic Records with new features from Gunna on their song titled "Racks", as well as another feature from NAV on "It's a Flex". Following its release, 88GLAM2 debuted at #8 on iTunes All-Genre Chart, then at #6 on the iTunes' Hip Hop Chart and also landed itself a top five spot in Spotify's Canada's New Music Friday playlist.
On August 26, 2022, 88GLAM released their final album, Close To Heaven Far From God. This would mark the end of 88GLAM, with Derek and Camino going separate ways.
One Call Away

Took my heart and then she run away (run away)
And for her I go the long way (long way)
Comin' back from court, so we gon' ball today (ball today)
Hit the mall today, ayy, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away (call away)
Ayy, ayy, ball today, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away
And I remember goin' broke, I couldn't find no work (work)
Went and got my racks, I had no choice, I did the dirt (yeah)
Ain't complainin', pull it out and put it in her purse (yeah)
Ain't worried 'bout it, ain't no stressin' when we hit the first (yeah)
And now she on it while she pulled up in her mini skirt
When she leave, she want a hoodie, so I give her merch
You know this love real complicated, but we had to learn (yeah, yeah)
And that fuck nigga that dropped me, yeah, I had to burn
Came from project housing, all we knew was how to take (take)
All that cappin' on your jewelry, buyin' real estate (state)
Yeah, there's mud inside my drink and mud all on my name (yeah)
Through all the charges, she was ridin', she remained the same (yeah)
Double Cs off the runway (runway)
Took my heart and then she run away (run away)
And for her I go the long way (long way)
Comin' back from court, so we gon' ball today (ball today)
Hit the mall today, ayy, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away (call away)
Ayy, ayy, ball today, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away
Did it the hardest way, how it got us partin' ways
You talkin' 'bout some pain, I can take it all away (all away)
Did it the hardest way, but I came with you with the fit (fit)
Takin' off your top was the first time I could not forget it
Takin' off your top was the hardest way, I had to get it (get it)
Told you I fuck with you, that's the first time that I had said it
Brand new crib with a landscape
Every cut needs a band-aid, give a fuck what your man say
Can't spend time, but the bands will
We send it to him like facetime, all we need is day time
Fuckin' me in the Wraith, you got a real nigga fetish (fetish)
Give a fuck what your man say, knew I'd come out unscathed
Double Cs off the runway (runway)
Took my heart and then she run away (run away)
And for her I go the long way (long way)
Comin' back from court, so we gon' ball today (ball today)
Hit the mall today, ayy, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away (call away)
Ayy, ayy, ball today, ayy, ball today (ball today)
Takin' off your top was just one call away
The lyrics of 88GLAM's "One Call Away" are about a relationship that is "complicated" but worth fighting for. The first verse describes the singer's obsession with a woman who took his heart and ran away. Despite this, he is willing to go the distance for her, even coming back from court to spend time with her. The chorus then changes the tone to a celebration of the good times the couple shares, with the two hitting the mall and living it up on a day of leisure. The pre-chorus shows how the singer had to do some shady things to earn money before becoming successful, but now can provide for the woman he loves. The second verse describes the couple's journey through their complicated relationship, with the singer admitting that he had to go through a lot of pain to find happiness with her. The verse also references their humble beginnings and how they had to work hard to make it. The bridge emphasizes the singer's confidence in his abilities to provide for and satisfy his partner.
Overall, "One Call Away" is a song about perseverance and commitment, showing how love sometimes requires us to take difficult routes but can lead to moments of joy and celebration. The use of brand imagery like double Cs and Wraiths reinforces the idea of luxury that the couple enjoys but also suggests that their success was hard-won.

In fact no, Sand Castle by Fujitsu also has the same guitar loop as a sample but didn´t record it originally either. This is sadly pretty common since many of the guys doing these tracks hardly ever record new stuff in such work. Wanna be surprised at how lazy these so called "producers" can be at work? Check the songs of this list and tell me if something draws your attention:

And many more, yet the same samples keep being used instead of paying a real guitar player to write and record a new one to avoid sounding just like the others around...
