Under Attack
ABBA Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My resistance's running low
And everyday the hold is getting tighter and it troubles me so
You know that I'm nobody's fool
I'm nobody's fool and yet it's clear to me
I don't have a strategy
It's just like taking candy from a baby
Under attack, I'm being taken
About to crack, defenses breaking
Won't somebody see and save a heart?
Come and rescue me now 'cause I'm falling apart
Under attack, I'm taking cover
He saw my track, my chasing lover
Thinking nothing's gonna stop him now
Should I want to, I'm not sure, I won't know how
Now this is getting crazy, I should tell him so
Really let my anger show
'Cause waiting at the answer to his questions is a definite blow
I'm kind of certain that's the truth
Guess I'm kind of flattered but I'm scared as well
Something like a magic spell
I hardly dare to think of what could happen
Where I'd be if I fell
Under attack, I'm being taken
About to crack, defenses breaking
Won't somebody see and save a heart?
Come and rescue me now 'cause I'm falling apart
Under attack, I'm taking cover
He saw my track, my chasing lover
Thinking nothing's gonna stop him now
Should I want to, I'm not sure, I won't know how
Under attack, I'm being taken
About to crack, defenses breaking
Won't somebody see and save a heart?
Come and rescue me now 'cause I'm falling apart
Under attack, I'm taking cover
He saw my track, my chasing lover
Thinking nothing's gonna stop him now
Should I want to, I'm not sure, I won't know how
Under attack, I'm being taken
About to crack, defenses breaking
Won't somebody see and save a heart?
Come and rescue me now 'cause I'm falling apart
The lyrics to ABBA's song 'Under Attack' speak of a person whose defenses are breaking, and they feel as though they are under attack from someone who is pursuing them relentlessly. The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer is confused and does not know how to deal with the situation; they feel as though their resistance is running out, and they do not know where to turn. They are becoming increasingly anxious as the person pursuing them tightens their grip, and this is troubling them greatly.
The singer acknowledges that they are nobody's fool and yet they feel as though they are being taken advantage of, with no strategy to defend themselves. They liken the situation to taking candy from a baby, implying that it is easy for the person pursuing them to get what they want. As the song progresses, the singer becomes more frightened, and they wonder if they are falling apart as a result of the pressure that they are under.
Overall, the lyrics of 'Under Attack' are powerful and emotive, conveying a sense of confusion, fear, and vulnerability. The song speaks to anyone who has felt overwhelmed and under siege, whether by a personal situation or the trials of life itself.

@leokimvideo
One of ABBA's best songs, yet barely made the charts. But as history now shows it's a very popular song

Bjorn was right when he said on a UK interview that he was surprised Under Attack didn't become a big hit at the time. This song is awesome! Pure ABBA!!!🎊

I wouldn't be suprised if this song was one of the chosen for the ABBAtar concert in London in 2022.
@martingenet2548
Agree the vocals are just awesome.

Under Attack was a very good song but I think the fans were used to more melodic songs from Abba. The expectation of ABBA songs was very high then and still is today. With any other band, Under Attack would probably have been a big hit.

I really agree with you. The arrangements (instrumental and vocal) are colder than what people were used to from the band, and the song is probably too midtempo for its own good. They were trying to adapt to the times, however, you have to give them that, even though the effort was half-convincing (in my opinion, at least).
