To be fair. At your age there is research which indicates BCAAs could benefit for you.

The reason hes plugging BCAA's on this video is because hes actively selling WAGNER products.

999 out of 1000 nutritionists and endocrinologists will tell you BCAA's are essentially worthless.

You went online and read expert advice, and then the very first guy who went against the grain, you believed him...

But didnt find it suspicious hes selling stuff?

@THE ADJUSTER Double Wood has a really good deal on capsules that contain 9 essential AAs. The capsules are very small and taken on an empty stomach. I'm very sensitive to nausea, vomiting, etc and have never experienced any side effects from those ones.
I wish I could share links to some clinical trials showing all the possible benefits of essential AAs, but YouTube just autodeletes the comment.

Since we are in this suplement/workout enviroment, you could do a video about isotonic drinks (+hypo/hyper). I made my research before I started drinking them during my climbing sessions, but I am sure you will say something new I missed and maybe inspire other people too. Hi Doctor Wagner. I currently take BCAAs as part of my regiment for my HIIT gym. I knew they helped muscle recovery, but beyond that I’m not sure if it helps maintain muscle mass or increase mass. Cool video by the way, hope it answers my questions.

Another question, why is protein so important for muscle building or maintaining. And why is it that resistance training for me specifically doesn’t make my arms or legs larger but rather leans me out? Thought it be the opposite.

I'm not a doctor, or a PT, but resistance training makes your muscles stronger, which usually means they grow larger, but that size increase is very slow, unless you take steroids.

I don't know if there is specific information on this, but I believe your strength increase will usually be "faster" or greater than your muscle size increase (a source of frustration to many young men...)

Another consequence of resistance training is, of course, that it takes a lot of energy, so your body might take some of that energy from its own fat stores. Also, the bigger the muscle, the more energy it uses - even when resting. Thus, as you get stronger, you will be burning more calories then you did before, 24 hours a day :)

Yeah, you need protein to grow it’s an essential building block for muscle. Also if you looking to grow muscle tissue rather than get stronger you should do high rep sets and only take 1 minute to a minute 30 between sets

Wouldn’t it be harmful to take bcaa supplements if a person is already consuming a standard amount of protein from their diet? Wouldn’t we only want to supplement with bcaas if we’re not getting an adequate amount of protein per day?

We need complete protein, but I know as someone who is building muscle that BCAAs are the best amino acids for muscle growth. Not all foods are high in leucine, seafood and dairy are high in leucine, but many protein sources are not. Also, glutamine is depleted rapidly during workouts so many supplement with glutamine to extend their workouts

Also... I figure people should rotate animal proteins and vegetable proteins.... So like this... Steak , chicken , shrimp , fish , potatoes (yes they have lots of aminos .. they have a lot of a lot of things ...) Peanuts , veal etc ... Without even knowing the amino acid composition of each of those things.... I feel like rotating them should cover the bases...

I think it's normal to be sleepy when the body enters 'recovery mode'. When the body is repairing itself, or enlarging its muscles, that probably takes a lot of energy.

I'd suggest a BCAA product that ONLY contains BCAA, and not stimulators such as caffeine.

I think the doc said that his preferred BCAA has caffeine in it, which probably will NOT help you sleep well :)

@Shay creatine has some research backing the idea that it can accelerate hair loss in individuals that are already genetically prone to it; in other words, it won’t cause any hair loss unless you’re already losing your hair.

@wamporeycidulgb yea I know all of that. It’s just a faster way to get amino acids into your body. Why would you need them faster if you’re eating multiple meals per day and taking multiple protein shakes in between - there is a constant amino acid flow from all of that already. The way I see them - flavor for your water that’s helping you get a little more aminos. You really don’t need them.

If I remember correctly, the answer is, BCAAs are already in their base forms, whereas more complex proteins must be broken down by your body, which takes time and energy.
I think it was something like; BCAAs are immediately usable aminos the body can use right away, and
generic 'protein powder' provide a larger quantity of protein, but our body needs to process it somewhat before turning it into muscle mass...

Actually you are already taking Amino acids because that's what collagen is made of. You can however take certain ones in higher doses for healing and wellness in general. They also play huge role in brain health when used as a Nootropic.

That depends on one's diet. If your diet has lots of fruit and veggies, and a steady rotation of fish and various meats, maybe.

I eat a lot of microwave and freeze dried dinners (because I'm a lazy cook), so I happily take supplements like BCAAs.
