AUGUSTINES Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The old man turned and scratched his chin
He said "Son, I wouldn't know where to begin, but your daddy's gone,
He's gone down south... it was all he would talk about"

We never blamed it on the soil
Or the sunburned earth
Or the prices of the oil
This border town is my home
I got rattlesnake guts
In a desert full of bones

Tell my sister I've gone and to find someone
Cause I won't come back no more, no more

Lord I see red and it's storming in my head
I got cathedrals in my ears and I think my daddy's dead
Lord I see red and I'm prayin' on my bed
I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother

Now the sun is shinin' on my hood
The statue on the dashboard
Of Maria looks beautiful,
And I'm headin' down south
I got tequila in my veins
And the devil in my mouth,

Tell my sister I've gone
And to find someone
Cause I won't comeback no more...
No more

Lord I see red and it's storming in my head
I got cathedrals in my ears and I think my daddy's dead
Lord I see red and I'm prayin' on my bed
I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother

But hey it's alright
I got jukebox tears and stones for eyes
Hey it's alright
I got jukebox tears
Under turquoise skies...
Hey.

So now I got hell on my trail
It took some demons to get even
No my demons are countin' rosaries
We never blamed it on the soil
Or the sun scorched earth
Where the desert meets the sky

Tell my sister I've gone and to find someone
Cause I won't come back no more...
No more.

Lord I see red and it's storming in my head
I got cathedrals in my ears and I think my daddy's dead
Lord I see red and I'm prayin' on my bed
I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother

Lord I see red and it's storming in my head
I got cathedrals in my ears and I think my daddy's dead
Lord I see red and I'm prayin' on my bed
I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother

I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother
I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother.

I got a drunk for a mother
Got a saint for a brother.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of AUGUSTINES’s song “Juarez” speak of a man who is fleeing from his home in search of something new, leaving behind a family that is struggling with their personal demons. The old man, who could be a relative or an acquaintance of the singer, admits that he doesn't know where to begin, but that the singer's father talked incessantly of going south. The singer seems to be leaving a place that has been tough on him, a border town full of bones, where he has seen the worst of the world. He implores his sister to find someone to take care of her, as he will not be coming back.

The chorus speaks of the singer's internal turmoil. He sees red, the storm rages in his head, and he thinks his daddy's dead. He has a drunk mother and a saintly brother, seemingly displaying the duality in his life. Additionally, he talks about the statue of Maria on his dashboard, implying a Catholic influence, which is reinforced by the mention of counting rosaries. The singer is heading south, fueled by tequila and a sense of adventure, under turquoise skies, suggesting the idea of a new beginning. Despite the struggles in his past, he seems determined to move forward and take control of his destiny.

It is outrageous how this band does not have the recognition it deserves. I first listen to Chapel Song on Suits this month, and i am obsessed.

Fame can be toxic. Unfortunately, sometimes its for the best that great music doesn’t get diluted.

That's my daddy in the video with the cowboy hat on. I'll never forget the day he called me and told me he was gonna be in a music video he was so excited. It was out in Arizona at triple T truck stop. He passed away not to long after this video was made and I thank God he was in it so when I start missing him I just watch this video. Love you and miss you so much dad. My dad sat and talked to the lead singer for a few hours and he told my dad this song is about him trying to find his dad.

@princeosars3298

Bless his memory

@ladykws

This touched me... My Daddy is unwell and there is no return. Time will tell, but my heart breaks. I pray to God he walks this earth for some good time to come. God bless us both. XO
