Abney Park began around 1997, but their popularity exploded with the onset of internet music, with much success through MP3.com in the early 2000’s. The band was a regular chart topper, often holding the number 1 – 5 positions in Goth and Darkwave, and Industrial Dance music charts. In 2005 the band morphed from a more Darkwave/Industrial inspired act to a Steampunk inspired act.
Abney Park's music has been featured on a number of movie soundtracks, including "Insomnis Amour", "Goth", and "Lord of the Vampires". The band's music has also been featured in many compilation CD’s, including Cleopatra Records “The Unquiet Grave” vol. III, "Annihilation and Seduction", "Eighteen" and many more.
Abney Park has performed all over the North America, appearing in Portland, Chicago, Las Vegas, Reno, Hollywood, and countless shows in their home base of Seattle. Their fans form a near-cult following, and have been known to travel from as far as New Zealand and Mexico City just to see them perform.

If I squeeze real tight I can feel right through your neck & bone
I think I have the right for your sins you know you must atone
I can feel your life like a fragile thing I can call my own
If I took my vengeance now, if I come into your home
Do you think it would haunt my soul & no one could condone?
Would my actions faulter? Would my conscience overrule?
Would I get more pleasure with my bare hands or a tool?
CHORUS
It was my torture & it was your gain
It was your pleasure & it was my pain
Now I'm left out in the cold
At first I bent & then I cracked
While you made plans behind my back
I'm sure you think it was clever
I can feel your life like a fragile thing I can call my own
If I squeeze real tight I can feel right through your neck & bone
I think I have the right for your sins you know you must atone
I can feel your life like a fragile thing I can call my own
CHORUS
I can feel your life like a fragile thing I can call my own
If I squeeze real tight I can feel right through your neck & bone
I think I have the right for your sins you know you must atone
I can feel your life like a fragile thing I can call my own
In "Vengeance," Abney Park explores the themes of betrayal, revenge, and the intricacies of ethical decision-making. The song starts with the main character feeling a sense of ownership over another person's life and contemplating the potential consequences of seeking retribution for their sins. The lyrics suggest that the character feels justified in taking matters into their own hands and exacting revenge, but they are also plagued by doubts and fears about the moral implications of their actions.
The chorus of the song is particularly poignant, emphasizing the pain and suffering that the character has endured and underscoring their sense of isolation and vulnerability. Through their melancholic lyrics, Abney Park captures the complexity of human emotions, allowing listeners to empathize with the main character's plight while also questioning the morality of their actions.
