1.) An American black metal band with a sound comprised of both thrash and death metal. Formed in Plano, Texas in 1989, the band's name was originally "Dolmen" but this was soon changed to "Absu", drawing thematic influence from esoteric middle-eastern and Celtic mythology. They recorded four albums and an EP from 1993 to 2001. After the release of Tara in 2001 the band was put on hiatus as guitarist and bassist Equitant Ifernain and Shaftiel departed, citing musical differences and disinterest in the band, respectively.
The current line-up is:
Proscriptor McGovern - Vocals (lead), Drums (Proscriptor, ex-Melechesh, ex-Judas Iscariot)
Vis Crom - Guitars (Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, ex-Armageddon, ex-Evil Divine)
Ezezu - Vocals (backing), Bass (ex-Panzram)
In 2007, Proscriptor resurrected Absu, announcing a new line-up and a new (self-titled) album was released in 2009.

Thus shalt thou be
A creator of the sun
Charon will inhibit his entrance
The fields and dwellings of relapsing ruins
Find thou thyself in every star
Achieve thou every possibility
Listen! Heed not the siren-voice of thought
Deliverme athwart the earth
Forsaken loam of wondrous slumbers
Thee spiritual and thee fertile
A spawn of full equilibrium
But whose availeth is in this,
For hereby there comenth impair
Facillis descensus Acherni
Noctes atque dies patet
Atri ianua Charnus
Sed revocare gradun sperasque
Evadere ad aurus,
Hoc opus, hic labor est.
There was not a formal sepulcher
Not one sector for the interment
Throth with thee empire of hope
All effects are welcome to Styx
The lyrics of Absu's song Descent to Acheron are filled with allegorical and mythical references that convey a sense of spiritual journey, transformation, and destruction. The song opens with the line "Pour water on thyself/Thus shalt thou be/A creator of the sun," which suggests the idea of self-purification as a prerequisite for transformation. The following line "Charon will inhibit his entrance" alludes to the Greek mythology of Charon as the ferryman who carries souls across the river Acheron to Hades and signifies the boundary between life and death.
The next few lines "The fields and dwellings of relapsing ruins/Find thou thyself in every star/Achieve thou every possibility" invoke the sense of cosmic unity, where the individual's quest for enlightenment and self-discovery leads to the realization that everything is interconnected. The line "Listen! Heed not the siren-voice of thought" warns against the temptation of distractions that could prevent one from attaining higher consciousness. The reference to the "fable of river #5" and "Styx" further reinforces the theme of death and rebirth. The closing lines "All effects are welcome to Styx" reiterate the idea that everything ultimately dissolves into the void.
