Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

We've kept the flame and the smoldering embers below
Deep in our hearts, our music defines our lives
We carry it on, finding a way to survive
So this is the way it must be it's us against the world
All inhibition set free us against the world
Into the fire we're hurled lt's us against the world
Together we stand, thinking with just one mind
Branded and pierced, fists in the air tonight
Millions of lives, brought together by common ground
A family entwined, one global nation profound
So this is the way it must be it's us against the world
All inhibition set free us against the world
Into the fire we're hurled lt's us us against the world
So this is the way it must be it's us against the world
All inhibition set free us against the world
And so our flag is unfurled it's us us against the world
Against the world
The song "Against the World" by Accept is a celebration of the power and unity found in music, particularly in the heavy metal genre. The opening lines of the song acknowledge the long-standing history of heavy metal, and the enduring passion of its fans. The metaphorical "fire" that has been burning for so long represents the tenacity and resilience of the genre, and the dedicated fans who keep the flame alive.
The chorus of the song, "us against the world," is a rallying cry for the heavy metal community. In a world that can be hostile and unforgiving, the song encourages fans to stand together, to let go of their inhibitions, and to embrace the power of music. The sense of unity that is created through music is emphasized throughout the song, with lyrics that speak to the common ground that metal fans share.
The final verse of the song, which declares that "our flag is unfurled," is a symbol of the strength and pride that comes from being part of a global metal community. In many ways, "Against the World" is an anthem for the heavy metal genre, celebrating its past, present, and future, and the deep connection that exists between its fans all over the world.
