Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Flash To Bang Time
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And it shook me right out of my mind
Staring right back at me, freezing the frame
I felt like a hostage in time
Caught somewhere between the spark and crash
Oooooww it happened in a flash
Exploding in my mind
The sound of spheres, splits my ears
Caught in the flash to bang time
Way past the crosshairs of space and time
I can see a dimension away
A cosmic eruption of neon fog
In an instant it starts to decay
Just like a match turned to smoke and ash
Oooooww it happened in a flash
Streaks of light, rip the night
Exploding in my mind
The sound of spheres, splits my ears
Caught in the flash to bang time
Floating on wreckage in black and white
Thru a negative reality
Trapped in a mirror where day is night
And I have to wake up from this dream
Streaks of light, rip the night
Exploding in my mind
The sound of spheres, split my ears
Caught in the flash to bang time
It happened in a flash
In the flash to bang time
Accept's song, "Flash to Bang Time" is a song about a moment of intense realization that changes the singer's perception of the world around them. The lyrics convey a feeling of being suspended in time and taken out of oneself. The singer is counting the seconds and suddenly sees themselves, which shakes them out of their mind. They feel trapped in time, caught between the spark and crash of a cosmic event. The "flash to bang time" refers to the time it takes for a lightning flash to be followed by the bang of thunder. The singer describes streaks of light that rip the night and explode in their mind, and the sound of spheres that split their ears. The cosmic event appears to be overwhelming, leaving the singer floating on wreckage in black and white, trapped in a negative reality.
The song presents a stark contrast between the singer's dream-like state and the overwhelming, visceral reality of the cosmic event. This spectacle is ephemeral, lasting only for an instant, and leaving the singer feeling like a hostage in time. The dream-like state is described as a "mirror where day is night," emphasizing the confusion and disorientation that the singer is experiencing. The song ends with the repetition of the phrase "it happened in a flash," emphasizing the brevity and intensity of the moment.
