Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

To be a part of your society
A life-time in prison wouldn't justify
You want to blow away a sucker, so I have to die
I'm still waiting for the final call
I want to meet my maker, I'm ready to go
Kill me, kill me, kill me, please, kill me
Give me a reason why you're gonna let me wait
Some kind of punishment before you terminate
You're taking my life for your peace of mind
So let's go, start the show
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
Let me die, let me go
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
Let me die, let me go, death row
I'm a dead man walking so get outta my face
Rather die like a man than rotting this way
I hate you and you hate me
You can come and kiss my dignity
You're taking my life for your peace of mind
So let's go, start the show
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
Let me die, let me go
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
I'm ready to go, death row, death row
Your justice is not mine
You punish a crime with another crime
If you need to kill me for your peace of mind
Then let's go, start the show
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
Let me die, let me go
Death row, I'm ready to go, death row
I'm ready to go, death row, death row
Death row, open up 'cause here I come
Death row, knock, knock, knocking
I'm no hero's son
Death row, there's no tears that you can sell
Death row, paid my ticket through the gates of hell
Death row, death row
Let me die, let me go
Death row, death row
The song "Death Row" by Accept is about a person who has been sentenced to death and is now reflecting on their situation. The lyrics express a sense of resignation and acceptance of their fate. The chorus repeats the phrase "death row, I'm ready to go, let me die, let me go," which underscores the singer's desire for the ordeal to be over.
The opening lines of the song express the singer's anger and frustration towards society for taking away their rights and sentencing them to death. They argue that a lifetime in prison would not justify their execution, and that those who want them dead are doing so solely for their own peace of mind. The lyrics also express a desire for some kind of last-minute intervention that might change the course of events, but ultimately the singer accepts their fate and prepares themselves emotionally for the execution.
The theme of death is a common one in heavy metal music. In the case of "Death Row," the lyrics are somewhat unique in that they express a fatalistic acceptance of the situation rather than rebellion or anger. The song was released in 1994 on Accept's fourteenth studio album, "Death Row."
