Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

The Beast Inside
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I'm wild-cat-mean
I'd like to shred your face
A danger to you
When I feel the urge
Deep down inside
I lose my human touch
I'm like a killing machine
I want to resist
But I can't hold it back
The beast is unleashed
It's got to attack
Again and again the force is too strong
It's breaching the chains
I've got the beast inside
Don't you trust in me
I've got the beast inside
Craving a victim
It's telling me to kill
I look through evil eyes
Prowling in the streets
In the dead of night
I'm a man on the hunt
I know my soul is under siege
Can't somebody stop me now
Cause I'm losing control
I've got the beast inside
Don't you trust in me
I know it must have been
The beast inside
It's driving me to kill
It's gotta be the beast
The beast
The beast
The beast
The beast
The beast deep down inside
But when the deed is done
And the pain is gone
I feel renewed within
Until the voices return
The beast
The beast
The beast
The beast
The beast
The beast
My mind is razor-sharp
And I'm wild-cat-mean
I'd like to shred your face
I've told you before
When I feel the urge
Deep down inside
I lose my human touch
I'm just a killing machine
I want to resist
But I can't hold it back
The beast is unleashed
It's got to attack
Again and again the force is too strong
It's breaching the chains
It's gotta be the beast inside
Never ever trust in me
I know there is a beast inside
Inside in all of us
I feel I've got the beast inside
I'm screaming for help
From this monster within
The beast inside
Take a look in the mirror
It's staring at you
Even at you
The beast inside
In Accept's song The Beast Inside, the lyrics describe the internal struggle of a person who cannot control their inner animalistic desires. The singer describes their mind as "razor-sharp" and their demeanor as "wild-cat-mean," giving the listener a sense of danger and unpredictability. They admit to having a desire to harm others and being a "killing machine" when the urge strikes. The singer recognizes the danger and feels their soul is under siege, asking for someone to "stop me now." However, they also feel a sense of renewal after the act is done, only to have the beast return with a vengeance.
The lyrics of The Beast Inside are open to interpretation, but they can be seen as a warning about the darker aspects of human nature. The song alludes to the fact that even the most "civilized" individuals are capable of violence and destruction if their inner demons are unleashed. The chorus "I've got the beast inside" can be interpreted in many ways, but the implication is that everyone has a side of themselves that is capable of darkness.
