Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Man's been on the hunt
We were born to kill
Fighting for survival
All in self-defense
It was do or die
The concrete age
A maximum overdose
Of pleasure and pain
Self-inflicted
Life corrupting
Antisocial - controversial
Living in sin
Sodom and Gomorra
Let me tell you what I see
Sodom and Gomorra
Got not law and order
Ruled by anarchy
It's here to stay
Chaos in the classroom
Kids are killing kids
Getting outta hand
Mothers and fathers
The sickening ones
Raping the children
At the end of a gun
Self-inflicted life corrupting
Antisocial controversial
Living in sin
Sodom and Gomorra
Let me tell you what I see
Sodom and Gomorra
We're in a burning hell
For all eternity
Sodom and Gomorra
You mustn't look back
To Sodom and Gomorra
Don't you look back
To the essence of evil
This universe of hatred
Aggression is the force
Heading for oblivion
We're on collision-course
Evolution's over
The devil has prevailed
Heaven screams for vengeance
This is judgment day
Self-inflicted life corrupting
Antisocial controversial
Living in sin
Sodom and Gomorra
Let me tell you what I see
Sodom and Gomorra
Forever ruled by anarchy
Sodom and Gomorra
Forever damned to purgatory
Sodom and Gomorra
"Sodom & Gomorra" by Accept is a powerful song that conveys a message of destruction and chaos. The lyrics delve into the concept that humanity has always been violent, beginning from the "stone-age" to the "concrete age," with the idea that we are born to kill engraved within our genetic makeup. The song delves into the idea that our society has devolved into a state of lawlessness and anarchy in which chaos reigns supreme. The children are killing each other, mothers and fathers are raping their children, and people are living in sin. The song culminates in an apocalyptic message that humanity is on a collision course, and the devil has prevailed, heading for oblivion.
The overall theme of the song is an attempt to raise awareness about the suffering that humanity is inflicting upon itself. Living in sin, corruption of the soul, and a lack of law and order are exposed as the major culprits leading mankind towards destruction. Accept's song "Sodom & Gomorra" warns us about the impending doom and the ever-present danger of violent self-destruction.
