Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Accept Lyrics

Blame it on your passion play
But I know it's just a game
Why don't we fight the fight
Evil it's not here to stay
Broken words are broken ways
You love the masquerade
And you don't seem to care
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Living out your fantasy, yeah
Never ever sell your soul
Don't surrender your control
No tenderhearted fools, no
Only time will tell the late
'cause with lies we're doomed to fail
Admitted just to ball, yeah
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
In your lap of luxury
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Spread your wings and you'll be free
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Living on the edge won't save ya
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer
Hold on, on your own
All for one, together we make it
You and me, can touch the sky
One for all, in the name of love
Only we can change the world
Make your dreams reality
One for all, it's the human key
All in all
Don't lose control, don't lose your soul
Stop living out you destiny, yeah
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Living out your fantasy
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
It's taking too long the time has come
Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Stop losing control without no freedom
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
Hellhammer, Hell, Hellhammer
The lyrics to Accept's song Hellhammer touch on themes of passion, control, and living out one's fantasies. The opening lines suggest that the time is right, and the blame for an impending conflict is placed on a passion play. The singer, however, claims to know that it's all just a game. The song then goes on to encourage fighting against evil, with broken words and broken ways being obstacles to success. The lyrics then shift to a discussion of a masquerade, with the singer suggesting that the person in question loves it.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Hellhammer" several times, seeming to reference the ultimate power or weapon. The lyrics then caution against selling one's soul or surrendering control. There's also a reference to "tenderhearted fools," implying that softness or weakness can be a hindrance. The song then returns to the Hellhammer refrain, with the added line "living on the edge won't save ya." The final lines exhort the listener to hold on, together we can achieve anything, and to make your dreams reality.
