Venus Blue
Acid Bath Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Creeping like frost
As slow as grave moss
Like drowning in dry oceans of bone dust
I taste the wreckage of crumbling faces
I know the pale thing in the darkest of places
I remember blood from the thighs of the mother
As everything is eaten by another
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
Slow desolation like a funeral procession
The lovely one screams like she's caught between stations
I eat the razor, a mouthful of God's flesh
Sweating this blackness,
I am shitting this cold death
I remember blood from the thighs of the mother
As everything is eaten by another
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE
Love is rotting on the vine
Crumbling in God's sunshine
I am dying all the time
Point me at the sky... sky
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE
How much more must we bleed her
I cut their throats while they slept
I wept
I peel back my skull for you
Yes I do
DEAD VENUS BLUE

I taste the wreckage of crumbling faces
I know the pale thing in the darkest of places

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Acid Bath's song "Venus Blue" evoke feelings of despair, decay, and death. The opening lines create a vivid image of slow-moving frost and grave moss, setting a somber tone. The singer describes the feeling of drowning in bone dust, emphasizing the sense of hopelessness and decay. They encounter the "pale thing," a symbol of death or decay that exists in the darkest places, suggesting that death is constantly present even in the seemingly ordinary.

The imagery of blood from the mother's thighs and the idea of everything being eaten by another illustrate a cycle of destruction that seems never-ending. The singer's cutting of throats while they slept may be interpreted as a metaphorical depiction of the way humans can be cruel to one another, and the act of weeping suggests guilt or sadness for having contributed to this cycle of destruction. The line "I peel back my skull for you" could be a reference to the act of self-examination or introspection, an attempt to uncover the inner workings of the mind.

As the song progresses, the lines "Love is rotting on the vine / Crumbling in God's sunshine / I am dying all the time" further emphasize the theme of decay and despair. The repetition of the phrase "How much more must we bleed her" suggests that the singer is questioning the cycle of destruction and whether it can continue indefinitely. Overall, the lyrics create a dark and introspective mood, emphasizing the singer's sense of hopelessness and their despair at the constant presence of death and decay.

True story, about 4 years ago I’m in the record store in Lafayette, holding this album in my hand and I realize Dax is 15 feet away checking out some albums. I felt like such a cheese ball but I went pay for the album and politely asked him if he would sign it, he was very cool about it. I met up with my wife after and said “you won’t believe what just happened”. She had no idea who Dax was but I was pumped up the rest of the day.

As much as I wish acid bath made more music. I'm grateful they made at least 2 albums. Both are undeniably perfect. Both heavy-yet-soulfully beautiful. They reach into what we think and feel. Their dark lyrics help me understand how beautiful this world is

@shaylax02

its sad that audie died, lest they would have made more im sure

@waterbottle4818

they had one more album but then the accident happened so they broke up sad sad we'll never hear killer rat poison

@WocklessGamingforAnimeMoms

They're two of the best metal albums ever recorded. Both literally 10/10 flawless. What's more of a shame is that we can't listen to these albums more widely.
