Wall of Stone
Acoustic Junction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's a wall of stone built on emotions
give you a gun say that's devotion.

One must join left of right
two sides to a coin two sides to a fight.

Yellow or green
black or white
there's a wall in between
colors serene.

Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall
looked at both sides before the fall.

Where to land he did not know
to the east or west side he was sure to go.

And all the king's men made him a man
took his feet told him where to stand.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Acoustic Junction's "Wall of Stone" touch on themes of division, conflict, and control. The "wall of stone" is a metaphor for the emotional barriers that people create between each other, often based on political or ideological differences. This division is perpetuated by those in power, who encourage people to pick a side and fight for it, even if it comes at the expense of empathy and understanding.

The chorus ("Yellow or green, black or white, there's a wall in between, colors serene") highlights the ways in which these divisions are often arbitrary and meaningless, yet they still manage to create conflict and animosity. The reference to Humpty Dumpty further underscores the precariousness of the situation, as even those in power (represented by the king's men) are ultimately powerless to prevent the inevitable fall.

Overall, the song is a commentary on the dangers of division, as well as a plea for unity and understanding.

on Do What You Do

I was just hiking in a forest with a friend when she said that somebody started to build a house nearby. We went to explore. The first thing I noticed was a tree growing in the middle of where the floor should have been. It triggered a memory of a song I knew when I was a kid, that I probably learned when I was at a long-ago campfire with somebody playing the guitar. It took me a while, but gradually the words to Uncle Jed's shed came to me. I sang it for my friend, and we both totally enjoyed the moment. So, thank you, for this delightful, quirky song
