Gentlemen's Evening
Adam West Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That's why we're sticking around
Lord Pounder is mixing the drinks
Markus is out bringing Connie to town
We've got the best here
The finest squad of the rock elite
So kick your shoes off
And make a toast to the Swedish beat
And the music's getting faster
And the air's just full of laughter
Where are all the chicks we're after?
It's a gentlemen's evening, baby
Dave C. made a Swedish girl cry
Nicke B. just used my towel
That rag will never get dry
Bobby Lee just licked some paper
We think that's oh so sad
But it's a gentlemen's evening, baby
The best times a man can have
You wanted to come here
But you've been in town way too long
You wanted to fit in
You'll know why when you hear this song
We'd like to help you
But you better get back to Chuck's room
Cuz it's a gentlemen's evening
And here comes the sonic boom
We're gentlemen . . . yeah!
The lyrics to Adam West's song Gentlemen's Evening depicts a night out with a group of friends, specifically a group of male friends, who are enjoying each other's company over drinks and music. The first verse of the song sets the scene for the night, where Lord Pounder is mixing drinks and Markus went out to bring Connie to town, indicating that the group is expecting to have some female company join them later on. The chorus of the song repeatedly highlights that this is a gentlemen's evening, which signifies that the night is focused on male bonding and not necessarily trying to pick up women.
The second verse gives a glimpse into some of the shenanigans that the group is getting into, such as Dave C. making a Swedish girl cry, Nicke B. using Adam's towel, and Bobby Lee licking some paper, all of which suggest that the group is just having fun in the moment and not really caring about the consequences. The bridge of the song shows that despite the group having fun, they are still on the lookout for women and wondering where all the chicks they're after are. The song concludes with emphasizing that this is a gentlemen's evening and that the group is just enjoying their time together.
Overall, the lyrics depict a snapshot of a night out with friends, emphasizing the importance of male bonding and friendship. The song portrays a group of men having a good time, not necessarily focusing on picking up women but more so enjoying each other's company.
