After graduating in arts from the BRIT School in 2006, Adele signed a record deal with XL Recordings. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 and spawned the UK top-five singles "Chasing Pavements" and "Make You Feel My Love". The album was certified 8× platinum in the UK and triple platinum in the US. Adele was honoured with the Brit Award for Rising Star as well as the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Adele released her second studio album, 21, in 2011. It became the world's best-selling album of the 21st century, with sales of over 31 million copies. It was certified 17× platinum in the UK (the highest by a solo artist of all time) and Diamond in the US. According to Billboard, 21 is the top-performing album in the US chart history, topping the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks (the longest for a female artist ever). She was the first female artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three simultaneous top-ten singles as a lead artist, with "Rolling in the Deep", "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain", all of which also topped the chart. The album received a record-tying six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and the Brit Award for British Album of the Year. The success of 21 earned Adele numerous mentions in the Guinness Book of Records.

In 2012, Adele released "Skyfall", a soundtrack single for the James Bond film of the same name, which won the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Her third studio album, 25, was released in 2015 and became the year's best-selling album and broke first-week sales records in the UK and US. 25 was her second album to be certified Diamond in the US and earned her five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and four Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year. The lead single, "Hello", became the first song in the US to sell over one million digital copies within a week of its release. This really sounds like a song for her son, Angelo. She said in interviews that this album is for her son, and I feel like the first single is her asking her son to understand the choices she made that have affected him.

On the divorce:
"I was just going through the motions and I wasn’t happy. Neither of us did anything wrong. Neither of us hurt each other or anything like that. It was just: I want my son to see me really love, and be loved. It’s really important to me,"

Adele is still haunted by an emotional exchange she and her son had when he was only 6 1/2.

"He said to my face, 'Can you see me? And I was like, Uh, yeah. And he was like, Cause I can’t see you.' Well, my whole life fell apart in that moment. He knew I wasn’t there," she recalled.

Still, Angelo's questions don't have easy answers, and that's as frustrating as it is heartbreaking for Adele.

"He has so many simple questions for me that I can’t answer, because I don’t know the answer," said the singer. "Like, Why can’t we still live together? That’s just not what people do when they get divorced. But why not? I’m like, I don’t f------ know. That’s not what society does. And: Why don’t you love my dad anymore? And I’d be like, I do love your dad. I’m just not in love."

For me personally, this song is about having the clarity to understand the effects of my choices, and how I've hurt other people in the process. I've always wanted to reach out to an ex of mine, even though it has been many years since we broke up. I feel like I've matured already and I'd really like us to have a conversation about what happened, about who were then and who we are now. Please go easy on me, I was a child then and I didn't know any better. I hope we can talk.

She simply is the best artist/singer of our generation! Her high notes are so gracefully executed, most singers would thin out, but Adele maintains the grit, power, richness, and buttery tone in those high belts! I just love the thickness and enormous sound that Adele can produce! This album really gravitated towards a new era in Adele's life (compared to 21 and 25), which I enjoyed as this album didn't seem as repetitive compared to her previous albums!! Her songwriting skills are amazing and underrated as well, we should praise her more for this!!

A person... who as a child suffered much SA trauma by family members and a mother who didn't care ...
...so go easy on me, I didn't get the chance to chose, so go easy.

I survived ... hope many others did too.

This is truly that one song which I wish was longer. It reminded me of my mother. She's currently 53 and got divorced 13 years ago, when I was 7.
She's done everything for me, and by saying that I mean literally everything. There were times when I was acting like a brat but she still showered me with her unconditional love. She fell in love but ignored that feeling for my sake, saying she wanted her attention to be fully focused on me.
There's no way I could ever return all the love she's given me through the years. My mother's a real hero. The strongest woman I've ever known. I just wish she'd focus on herself now that I've grown up. She deserves all the wonderful things in the world.

My parents divorced when I was around 12-13 I remember being angry and upset about it never understanding why they couldn’t be together. They were 18 when they had their first child and now listening to this song at 23 has helped me understand my mom so much better she was so young and hadn’t experienced so many things. She had to practically put her life on pause and become someone she wasn’t. It’s amazing seeing how her personality has shined through and how much happier she is now. I’m sorry if I wasn’t easy on you mom.❤️
