Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

E' inutile combattere
Lasciati calare giu' le mutande
E ritorna su di me
Questa e' l'unica cosa che il fisco
Non ci potra' rubare
Fu cosi' che mi abbandonai nudo
Nudita'.......
E di nuovo con lei mi incendiai
Nella foga dei baci suoi
Mi diceva stai dentro di me
Io ti amo.
I felini movimento di lei
Mi inebriavano l'anima
Ci sembrava di volare insieme
Al di fuori dei nostri corpi
Mi chiedevo come vivere puo'
Un amore grandecosi'
Se la societa' e' costruita
Sulla malafede e linganno...
E linganno...
E linganno...
E linganno...
Ma pareva di rubare l'amore
Alla gente che muore di fame
Gli spari della bosnia
Sembravano avvicinarsi di piu'
E come isolati dal
Gemito dell'egoismo umano
Lei si rifugiava in me
Mi baciava... e poi mi diceva...
Ti amo...
Ti amo...
Io ti amo.
The song La Casa Dell'amore by Adriano Celentano is a heartfelt reflection on love in a world full of corruption, greed and dishonesty. The opening lines of the song suggest that while the world may be a difficult place to navigate, it is possible to find moments of joy and connection with the right person by your side. The repeated refrain "Ti amo... Io ti amo" signifies the strong connection between the two lovers in the song, despite the challenges that they face.
The lyrics touch on themes of political corruption and societal malaise, with mentions of the futility of fighting against a dishonest system, and the idea that thieves can be found not just in government but in all walks of life. Despite these weighty themes, the overall tone of the song remains tender and wistful, with the singer seeking refuge in his lover's arms and cherishing the moments of happiness that they share together.
As the song comes to a close, the singer is forced to leave his lover behind to fight against the injustice of the world. Yet, even as he takes up this fight, he still holds on to the memory of his lover and their love-filled moments together.

Un amore grandecosi'
Such a great love
Se la societa' e' costruita
If society is built
Sulla malafede e linganno...
On bad faith and deceit...
Ma pareva di rubare l'amore
But it seemed like we were stealing love
Alla gente che muore di fame
From the people who are dying of hunger
Gli spari della bosnia
The gunshots of Bosnia
Sembravano avvicinarsi di piu'
Seemed to be getting closer

Piu' tempo da perdere
No more time to waste

That was knocking like a threat
Nella casa mia dell'amore...
In my house of love...
Dell'amore...
Of love...
Dell'amore...
Of love...
Dell'amore...
