After the Fall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You're my suppression
But there is no excuse
For an exception
For being so
So fucking selfish
For the lies
You broke our hearts and minds
And still after 30 years
I've been retired
Are you always looking for a continue
And then do you die for this
And then walk in the wrong room
How you did defiance
For being wrong
And not being right
I'll always judge
And hold a grudge
So what I want
Everything I want
It's you tonight that's what
For a different time that's not
This is all that you look around
This you your night has lost
Dissent this touch
I always look up to you
And then do you foretold this
And now on no one will be in doubt
How you interfere us
It's you that's not disrupt
For this is just the start
I just want to be a better person than you
I just want to be a better person than you
I just want to be a better person than you
I just want to be a better person than you
The lyrics to After the Fall's song Disunion seem to be a reflection on a relationship that has caused the singer a great deal of pain and frustration. The song opens with the lines "I can't breathe lately, You're my suppression" which immediately evoke a sense of suffocation and being trapped. The singer then goes on to say "But there is no excuse for an exception" which suggests that while they may have tried to rationalize or justify the behavior of the other person in the past, they can no longer do so. The repeated refrain of "I just want to be a better person than you" further emphasizes the singer's desire to distance themselves from this relationship and move on.
The middle verses are somewhat cryptic, but seem to touch on themes of regret, defiance, and the impact that the other person's actions have had on the singer's life. The line "You broke our hearts and minds" is particularly powerful and suggests that this relationship has had lasting emotional and psychological effects. The final line of the song "For this is just the start" feels almost ominous, as if the singer is preparing to take some kind of action to break free from this toxic cycle.
Overall, Disunion is a song that explores the complexities of relationships, particularly those that are destructive or harmful. The lyrics suggest a deep sense of pain and frustration, but also a glimmer of hope that the singer will be able to rise above this situation and become a better person.

I can't breathe lately
I feel suffocated and overwhelmed with emotions
You're my suppression
You are the reason for my feelings of suffocation
But there is no excuse
There is no justification for your behavior
For an exception
Even if there were, I wouldn't accept it
For being so
For acting in such a way
So fucking selfish
Being incredibly self-centered
For the lies
For deceiving me
And broken promises
For failing to fulfill your commitments
You broke our hearts and minds
You caused us emotional and mental pain
And still after 30 years
Even after all this time
I've been retired
I am no longer involved with you
Are you always looking for a continue
Do you always seek to prolong the situation?
And then do you die for this
Is this worth sacrificing everything for?
And then walk in the wrong room
And then end up in the wrong place
How you did defiance
Your rebellious behavior
For being wrong
For being in the wrong
And not being right
And failing to correct your mistakes
I'll always judge
I will always assess your actions
And hold a grudge
And I will not forget the wrongs you have done
So what I want
My desires
Everything I want
All the things I desire
It's you tonight that's what
You are what I want tonight
For a different time that's not
But that is not appropriate in this moment
This is all that you look around
This is the reality that you must face
This you your night has lost
You have lost your chance for this night
Dissent this touch
Rejecting physical contact
I always look up to you
I always held you in high regard
And then do you foretold this
Did you predict this outcome?
And now on no one will be in doubt
There is no confusion or uncertainty anymore
How you interfere us
How you have disrupted our lives
It's you that's not disrupt
You are the one who should not cause chaos
For this is just the start
This is only the beginning of our issues
I just want to be a better person than you
I aspire to be a more decent individual than you
I just want to be a better person than you
This desire remains the same
I just want to be a better person than you
And continues to drive me forward
I just want to be a better person than you
Towards an improved version of myself
