I remember sitting in first row during an Alfred Brendel Liszt and Bach recital 44 years ago. I was merely 14 and that was my very first live concert ever. I had just started to learn the piano, so at first i sat there with baited breath, crossing my fingers for the maestro not to hit a wrong note. He didn't. He played the Italian Concerto, Benédiction de Dieu dans la solitude, B-A-C-H and a chorale. I remember sitting there in total awe, not understanding what was happening to me. Life has never been the same since. Thank you, vielen, vielen Dank, Maestro Brendel.

@op-training

Like you I went to a Brendel concert when I was a teenager and it affected me deeply. Several times during the concert I realised that I was holding my breath and had to remind myself to start breathing again!

@SRoqua

When it comes to Schubert, Brendel is absolutely unmatched, perfect touch 🙂

agree

@toewomg

I’m also his fans for over 30 years, but when it comes to Schubert’s Impromptus, I much preferred Radu Lupo’s playing !

@resounds

there's something about Brendel's interpretation of Schubert and it deeply touches listeners' heart. thumbs up. 💚☘

About a million years ago I heard a recital with Brendel playing late Schubert sonatas. It was an odd experience. Mr. Brendel walked on to the stage and was met by a Bosendorfer that seemed to be about 50 feet long. He sat down at the might beast and began to play and as he played the piano disappeared, then Brendel disappeared, and finally the stage and the audience disappeared. Each of us was left utterly alone with the towering genius and the sublime music of little Franz Schubert.

Exquisite, heaven.
How blessed I am (82) at having sight and hearing to experience Alfred Brendel, who I saw and heard so many years ago. Christina

@MusikPiratCH

I hope you have been blessed enough to also listen to the one and only Artur Rubinstein! I'm too young to ever been able to have attended any of his many concerts! how sad

Very difficult to say and judge as a violonist player, but i like it very much !
