Since coming together as a band, they cut their teeth playing numerous California dates with groups like Entrance Band, Tyde, Tijuana Panthers, and the Growlers, and have garnered the approval of original UK Psych founding-father Patrick Campbell-Lyons (Nirvana). In the Los Angeles musical community, they gained a reputation as a laid-back, grooving band with strong ties to the authentically LA-centric sounds of bands like the Byrds, Love, and early Captain Beefheart.
The group released their third album, Calico Review, on September 9, 2016. On November 3, 2017, the band released the EP Covers #1. The EP consists of four covers of songs by George Harrison, Television, Kathy Heideman, and Further. In October 2019, the band released the album LAHS.
Had It All
Allah-Las Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I had it all
Never settle down 'cause I had it all
I had it all
But it all just came and went fast than I could
Have the time to separate the bad from good
Didn't really try 'cause I had it all
Never question why I had it all
I had it all
But it all ain't really much when all you need
Is the time to let your mind be relaxed and free
Yeah, it all just came and went faster than I could
Had the time to separate the bad from good
Now my days are never few and I can't say
That I have to take it all, I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
I had it all
The lyrics of "Had It All" by Allah-Las speaks to the idea of having everything but still feeling unfulfilled. The repetitive phrase "I had it all" emphasizes the point that the singer had all the material things they desired, but didn't feel complete. The song suggests that the fast-paced and materialistic lifestyle the singer was living in wasn't enough to make them happy.
The lines "But it all just came and went fast than I could/Have the time to separate the bad from good" hints at the idea that having it all was fleeting and didn't allow for true enjoyment. The singer also acknowledges that they didn't really try to appreciate what they had and never questioned why they had all the material possessions. The chorus once again emphasizes that despite having everything, it still didn't bring contentment to the singer.
In the end, the singer realizes that the key to happiness is not having everything but rather having the time to "let your mind be relaxed and free." This shift in perspective suggests that true fulfillment comes from within and that material possessions can only provide temporary happiness.
