Hold Me Down
Amanda Merdzan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But we've got blankets and stars that should burn us like suns.
The sky over this town is so clear at night.
But our heads are clouded from these drinks that fuel these fights.
Will you please hold me down in this seaside town before I explode?
I'll tell you everything, I'll tell you everything you want to know.
That so many kids here, so many kids are in love.
And honey you you're sitting next to one.
So roll the window down, this air is scarce, you steal it from my lungs.
You want to know.
So now you know it is you.
The lyrics to Amanda Merdzan's song Hold Me Down paint a picture of a seaside town that seems to be filled with chaos and conflict but is also incredibly beautiful. The lines, "Out on the fairway the bite is oh so sharp. But we've got blankets and stars that should burn us like suns," describe a situation where the environment is harsh, but the people find ways to make it enjoyable through simple pleasures like laying on blankets and stargazing. The next line, "The sky over this town is so clear at night. But our heads are clouded from these drinks that fuel these fights," introduces a contrast between the natural beauty of the town and the negative energy that seems to be permeating the community.
In the chorus, the lyrics really hit home with the line, "Will you please hold me down in this seaside town before I explode?" This line speaks to a feeling of being overwhelmed by the turmoil of the town and needing someone to ground and comfort the artist. The second line of the chorus, "I'll tell you everything, I'll tell you everything you want to know," speaks to a desire for openness and vulnerability in the relationship.
The second verse focuses on the idea of love in the town. The lyrics, "Driving through this town, who would have thought? That so many kids here, so many kids are in love. And honey you you're sitting next to one," create a sense of surprise at how much love there is in a place that seem so chaotic. The last line of the verse, "So roll the window down, this air is scarce, you steal it from my lungs," continues with the theme of needing someone to ground the artist and provide comfort.
Overall, this song highlights the beauty and chaos that can coexist in a place and the need for connection and grounding in a difficult environment.
