El Balsero
Amaury Gutiérrez Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song "El Balsero" by Amaury Gutierrez speaks about the struggles, fears, and hopes of Cuban refugees who flee their country on rafts. The title "El Balsero" refers to the rafters who overcome great obstacles as they try to cross the sea to reach the US, where they can start a new life. The lyrics begin with the singer acknowledging the immensity of the sea and the dreams of those who take to the water in search of freedom. The rafters' dreams are bigger than their boats, but they won't give up.
The song goes on to address the challenges and dangers that await the balseros on their journey. The singer encourages his fellow travelers not to be afraid of death, as liberty sparkles on the horizon. He reminds them that the fierce times they are living through have not extinguished their smiles. The song also highlights the harsh realities of how balseros often face death on their journey, and how there is no passport in the world that can save someone who is dying.
Amaury's lyrics are a poignant reminder of the harshness of life faced by refugees worldwide. They portray the hopes, dreams, and harsh realities of Cuban refugees as they attempt to cross the sea to reach the US. The song has become an anthem for those who face similar struggles worldwide.
