Their version of "Amazing Grace" is incredibly powerful, for three reasons: (1) The tune was an old Blues song, long before it was used for "House of the Rising Sun".

(2) The singers embody the lyrics about being "blind, but now, I see".

(3) The lyrics are a poem, written in 1773, by Rev. John Newton---a former slave ship captain, who not only fully recanted his egregious sins, but became a minister and the first abolitionist to state that slavery was inhumane.

A great history lesson thanks

I haven't done my research, but story has it that Newton was caught in a storm off of the South Carolina coast (hurricane?) and recognized his sins. It took him time to repent. There is an irony listening to the descendants of perhaps Newton's slave ship sing "Amazing Grace".
Disturbingly I spent several years at a major university in the deep south who's bell tower would play "Amazing Grace", yet too few White Southerners understood its significance.
As much as slavery is abhorrent to me, I appreciate the contributions African slaves made. In no small part they made the US a country worth living in.

Met these guys about a month ago, they were all super chill and cool guys. Ray (bass) was amazing and the guy I got to hang with the most. He gave me tips on bass, and just flat out chilled with me for a solid 10 minutes answering questions and getting to know me better. These guys for sure don’t remember me, because our exchange was only about 20 minutes long, but I know I’ll remember them for the rest of my days. God bless ✌️

Don't be surprised if you get to jam with them in heaven.

@brandonligon3068

@Christopher Myers could you imagine getting to play a solo for the king?

@christophermyers8157

@brandon ligon A lot of pressure, but I guess that's what crazy musicians who believe in God aspire.
When I play or even when I practice, I try to view it from the perspective that God is already watching, and he is the main audience.
The stories about David being a musician touched me in the bible.

@christophermyers8157

Some of these musicians have exceptional memories and make it a point of their career to serve their fans.

So even though you may be one of the thousands of fans, don't be surprised if you touched them in the same way by being willing to ask for advice.
