In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.
A Heart's for the Breaking

Is a war worth a fight?
(Can a) Can the seas hold the load
(Don't leave me) leave me drowned, comatose
For the run, for the time (I loved you)
Take the wrongs, make 'em right
I don't know what it's going to take
Is love only real if it's blind?
Or can it survive 20/20 sight?
(Can a) Can a heart overload?
(Don't leave me) broke apart, nowhere to go
For the run, for the time (I loved you)
Take my wrongs, make 'em right
I don't know what it's going to take
All I know is a heart's for the breaking
All the time that I spent lovin' you, all the time that I was lovin' you
I'll never ever believe we're through, no
I know the truth and I know you do: it's always meant to be me and you
Too many things that we been through whoa
Don't leave me comatose, leave me drownin' no, broken-hearted no
All the time that I spent lovin' you
It's always meant to be me and you
It's always meant to be me and you
I don't know what it's going to take
All I know is a heart's for the breaking
In "A Heart's for the Breaking," Amerie explores the complexities and uncertainties of love and relationships. The lyrics pose several thought-provoking questions, suggesting a sense of confusion and vulnerability. The opening lines ask if two wrongs can make a right, questioning the possibility of finding resolution and balance in a troubled relationship. This is followed by questioning the worthiness of fighting for a love that may be causing pain or distress.
The next set of lines ponders the concept of love's authenticity and resilience. Amerie wonders if love can only exist when it is blind, without fully acknowledging the flaws and imperfections of the beloved. She questions whether a heart can handle an overwhelming amount of emotions and whether it can endure being broken and left with no direction.
Despite the confusion and uncertainty expressed in the lyrics, there remains a strong attachment and belief in the connection shared with the person she loves. Amerie acknowledges the time and effort invested into the relationship and refuses to believe that it's over. She asserts that it was always meant to be her and the person she loves, regardless of the challenges they've faced together.
Overall, "A Heart's for the Breaking" encapsulates the emotional turbulence and introspection that often accompanies complicated love affairs. It portrays the struggle to find answers and make sense of conflicting emotions, while also expressing a steadfast belief in the power of love.
