Touch
Amerie Lyrics

Most people say, they think, huh, well
Why don't you get to know me

Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)
He's lookin' like he can't believe this
Always in my jeans
And bet he don't know what I'm thinkin'
(I want to take him home with me)
This here's gonna be my weekend
I don't think he knows that I see him
His body gots me weak (and I can't wait to see)

What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me

Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)

I know I ain't been drinkin'
Damn, he's got me leanin'
All up in my ear breathin'
We over here makin' a scene and I don't really care who sees
I just want him to feel (my love inside of me)

What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me

Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)

Oh no
I like that
Right there (don't think)
Baby just wait, don't move

What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me

Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)

TOUCH
Amerie
Columbia

When she appeared in Hartford a couple of years back, shoehorned into a holiday bill filled with hip-hop superstars, Amerie's future seemed about as promising as Enron stock. Performing a few tepid, DAT-backed ballads from her underwhelming debut, she appeared to be a textbook example of today's one-and-out star. But in an industry where you rarely get a second chance to make a first impression, "Touch" shreds conventional wisdom, including this writer's. It's a complete, and completely unexpected, reinvention that sounds like this year's must-have summer soundtrack.

It's hard to tell who's grown more since Amerie's first album, the singer or her producer. Amerie co-wrote most of these songs and now attacks her material like Beyonce with something to prove.

Producer Rich Harrison more than makes up for the duds he delivered before with this collection of cutting-edge R&B.;
Comparisons between leadoff track "1 Thing" and "Crazy in Love" (also a Harrison effort) are unavoidable and warranted....

As for the "style" if you wanna see who actually bit whose swag here are some links to performances of both women performing back in 2002, the same year Amerie debuted and you can see it for yourself:

Amerie:

(Soul Train 2002:) https://youtu.be/JmAmgUN8oog

Beyonce
(106 & Park 2002) https://youtu.be/VwgzyURRiGQ
(The Tonight Show 2002)
https://youtu.be/0rmhcfeetqM

It's very clear who was more talented and who had that swag naturally on stage first. Even back then performing a song that didn't catch on Bee was still running circles on stage around Amerie. Even as far as the topic of who did the sound first goes, both Crazy and Love AND 1 Thing would fall much closer to the sound Bee had with Work it Out than the would be to Why Don’t We Fall In Love.

Now here are links to Beyonce performing CIL in 2003 and Amerie doing 1 Thing in 2005:

(CD:UK 2005)

If you can watch thst and honestly think Bee's performances in 2003 resembled anything of the amateur hour Amerie that was doing on stage in 2002, then you are blind. She was giving pretty much the same thing she gave in 2002, just sans the big hair and a more current soul/funk fused with pop sound. Amerie on the other hand changed up her whole image and stage presentation in 2005 to replicate what what Bee was doing with CIL performances in 2003. Amerie even took Bee's 2002 idea of performing with Shelia E as part of her band in some of her 2005 performances: https://youtu.be/7dhxqqg5eck

But we will ignore little facts like that cause it conflict with the "poor Amerie got robbed by Beyonce" angle.

@Ciclopea2

Also "from the horses mouth:

"From her face, she was kind of like, 'I don't know, but I'mma ride with you anyway,' " he remembered. "I knew I was going to have to sell it a little bit, because when it comes on it doesn't sound like anything that was being done at the time." - Rich Harrison on doing CIL with Beyonce

http://www.mtv.com/news/1484784/road-to-the-grammys-the-making-of-beyonces-crazy-in-love/

"It was energy and beat driven and I had never done anything like that for Amerie , but I wanted to give it to her." - Rich Harrison on doing 1 Thing with Amerie

https://books.google.com/books?id=9iYEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA151&lpg=PA151&dq=amerie+on+beyonce+diss&source=bl&ots=DUT6e1It6M&sig=ACfU3U0WXno8RsKrEmnSHRtGF0kQOesxpg&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiA1cbukrDuAhUPWqwKHbSqAxE4MhDoATAJegQICRAB#v=onepage&q=Rich&f=false (pg. 234)

So there you have Rich Harrison the producer in question himself admiting that he had NEVER done anything like that sound with Amerie before prior to 1 Thing in 2005, while also saying that Crazy In Love itself sounded like nothing what was being done before when it was released in 2003. So that tells you even the producer would acknowledge that Bee did that sound first with CIL. This is why none of these channels pushing this narrative that Bee stole Amerie's sound won't just reach out to Rich to get his story and his recount of events.

@Ciclopea2 The reason i'm capable of writing an "essay" on this topic is because unlike yourself i've done more than "basic" research, which in your case "basic research" seems to be "I heard it in a YouTube video so it must be right". In addition to the fact that I was highly active on forums and messageboards that centered around music and entertainment, specifically African-American entertainment so I remember how events actually played out back then.

The only "side of the story" Amerie gave in that video was after Wendy said 1 Thing sounds like she went out and got Beyonce's producer, Amerie replied with "it's the go-go, but I was doing go-go on the first album", that was a PR response, obviously she couldn't say "well yea Bee did it first, so then I decided to do it too because she made it hot" so her response was to muddle the issue, it wasn’t technically a lie because she had a track with go-go elements on it "Need You Tonight", but that song was one step away from being a ballad, it still sounded nothing like the sound ushered in by CIL and the one Amerie later adopted on her second album. This quote is also straight from the horses mouth:

"The first album we actually had Go-Go elements in one of the records that we did, but it was a slower kind of vibe."

https://www.mvremix.com/urban/interviews/amerie2.shtml

So there Amerie herself admits that her first album had only one single song with go-go elements and that was a slow joint. Having one single deep cut with some subtle go-go elements in it that wasn't even uptempo, on her album did not make it "her sound", the sound she was known for was her slower laid back grooves like "Why Don’t We Fall In Love" and "Talking to Me". 1 Thing Amerie was a total reinvention both in sound an image as a response to the success Beyonce had with CIL and was having in general.

How in the world did this song not garner as much success as "1 Thing" I'll never know. "Touch" is an amazing song and Amerie co-wrote it too. It did reach the top 20 over here in the UK, but didn't chart very well in the US. This is one of my fave songs that I constantly play on repeat.

This music video is sexual in its nature, but is portrayed in a tasteful manner. I love Amerie's outfit, it makes her skin glow. She is just beautiful.

Because the US has no taste.

Amerie was gorgeous. This song still slaps. 😍

"Was?" She's not anymore? Also, she's not deceased so, don't speak of her in the past tense.
