In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.

Why don't you get to know me
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
He's lookin' like he can't believe this
Always in my jeans
And bet he don't know what I'm thinkin'
(I want to take him home with me)
This here's gonna be my weekend
I don't think he knows that I see him
His body gots me weak (and I can't wait to see)
What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)
I know I ain't been drinkin'
Damn, he's got me leanin'
All up in my ear breathin'
We over here makin' a scene and I don't really care who sees
I just want him to feel (my love inside of me)
What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)
Oh no
I like that
Right there (don't think)
Baby just wait, don't move
What it is I really want is for him to do to me what he wants to
He would want to, yeah
He can come inside my mind
If he tried but he don't know how I want to
Baby, don't you know what you get from me
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me can be (touched)
Don't be afraid to touch
I know you think I'm a good girl
Don't you think a girl like me should be(touched)
Touch, Touch
The lyrics to Amerie's "Touch" speak to a woman's desire to be seen as more than just a "good girl." Most people assume that she is innocent and pure, but she's inviting a man to get to know her in a more intimate way. The chorus urges him not to be afraid to touch her, to explore the more sensual and sexual sides of her personality. The first verse describes how the singer is drawn to a man who doesn't seem to know or understand her desires. She wants him to take her home, to give into their mutual attraction. The second verse is more explicit in describing the physical attraction between them. She's leaning into him, making a scene, and actively seeking a connection with him. The bridge repeats the message of the chorus and ends with an invitation to touch.
Overall, "Touch" is a song that speaks to the desire for intimacy and exploration, particularly for women who are often boxed into a particular "good girl" stereotype. The singer is expressing her own sense of agency and desire, breaking through the expected norms and giving voice to a broader range of feelings and experiences that all women can relate to.

@Ciclopea2 The reason i'm capable of writing an "essay" on this topic is because unlike yourself i've done more than "basic" research, which in your case "basic research" seems to be "I heard it in a YouTube video so it must be right". In addition to the fact that I was highly active on forums and messageboards that centered around music and entertainment, specifically African-American entertainment so I remember how events actually played out back then.
The only "side of the story" Amerie gave in that video was after Wendy said 1 Thing sounds like she went out and got Beyonce's producer, Amerie replied with "it's the go-go, but I was doing go-go on the first album", that was a PR response, obviously she couldn't say "well yea Bee did it first, so then I decided to do it too because she made it hot" so her response was to muddle the issue, it wasn’t technically a lie because she had a track with go-go elements on it "Need You Tonight", but that song was one step away from being a ballad, it still sounded nothing like the sound ushered in by CIL and the one Amerie later adopted on her second album. This quote is also straight from the horses mouth:
"The first album we actually had Go-Go elements in one of the records that we did, but it was a slower kind of vibe."

So there Amerie herself admits that her first album had only one single song with go-go elements and that was a slow joint. Having one single deep cut with some subtle go-go elements in it that wasn't even uptempo, on her album did not make it "her sound", the sound she was known for was her slower laid back grooves like "Why Don’t We Fall In Love" and "Talking to Me". 1 Thing Amerie was a total reinvention both in sound an image as a response to the success Beyonce had with CIL and was having in general.

How in the world did this song not garner as much success as "1 Thing" I'll never know. "Touch" is an amazing song and Amerie co-wrote it too. It did reach the top 20 over here in the UK, but didn't chart very well in the US. This is one of my fave songs that I constantly play on repeat.
This music video is s3xual in its nature, but is portrayed in a tasteful manner. I love Amerie's outfit, it makes her skin glow. She is just beautiful.
