In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, hey
Our love what we once treasured
Your ways what I remember most of all
Can't quite get away from the days we love so heavenly
That day when I let my temper get the best of what we used to have
Now I got to ask you can you make it
[Chorus]
Like it used to be
Bring back your love to me
I remember when our love was new
And all I needed in my life was you
And baby it felt so right to me
Please make it like it used to be
Now I won't usually press nobody
But why can't worse as hastily
Before God had forgiven me
Thought the love that we had count for anything else
Only one way to find out how and you know how
[Chorus: x2]
Ohhh, don't want to lose your love
And I can't stand to lose your touch
Ohhh, I can still remember when our love was strong
But I don't know where we went wrong
[Chorus]
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
In Amerie's song Like It Used To Be, the singer reminisces about a past love and the memories she cherishes from that relationship. She cannot get away from the days when they were deeply in love and their love was heavenly. She describes her lover's ways as something she remembers most of all. She also remembers the sweetness of his kiss and how he surrendered to her in love. However, she admits that her temper got the best of what they used to have, and she wonders if they can ever make their love whole again.
The chorus of the song seems to be an appeal to her lover to bring back the love they once shared. She pleads with him to make it like it used to be, to bring his love back to her, and to remember the way their love felt when it was new. She remembers how it felt when all she needed in her life was him, and how it felt so right to be with him. She is afraid that she might lose him and their love altogether.
The song's lyrics highlight the importance of love and the difficulties that come with maintaining a loving relationship. Amerie's voice and delivery create an emotional impact, making the song both tender and powerful.
