Different People
Amerie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't say that you care
And tell me how I should be
Cuz you know it ain't fair
To go and try to fix me
You use to love my laugh
Now you say I'm too loud
Use to like the way I dress
Now I gotta tone it down
It's like you tryna change
Things that make me, me
But I can't help but be, be who I be

[Chorus]
We can't be different people
We can't be different people
You gotta love me or just leave me baby
Cuz who I am is who you are
Sometimes we won't see eye to eye
Cuz were different people
But I gotta love you or just leave you baby
Cuz who I am is who you are

You know that I care
And you know that except you
And that's why I don't share
All the things I think you should do
(something's like)
You use to make me out
Now you stay watching the game
For no reason you sent me flowers
Now it's just holidays yeah
You use to keep me guess'n
Now there's no mystery, no, no
But you can't help it babe, you be who you be

[Chorus]

It's who we are
It's who we are
People couldn't try to
And I shouldn't want to
I wouldn't want to change anything

It's who we are
It's who we are
I know that you're still with
Who you fell in love with
I shouldn't want to change nothing

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Amerie's song Different People is about the challenges that two people can face when they try to change each other. In the verses, Amerie describes how her partner used to love certain aspects of her, like her sense of humor and her style, but now wants her to change them. The chorus is a plea to accept each other for who they are, without trying to make the other person conform to your idea of who they should be. The lyrics highlight the fact that even though people may have different opinions, they should accept each other as they are.

The message behind this song is one of self-love and acceptance. Amerie sings about how no one should try to change another person because we are all unique individuals. Instead, we should embrace our differences and love each other for who we are. The lyrics are also empowering as they remind listeners that it's important to stay true to oneself and not bend to someone else's expectations. By conveying the message that we must love and accept each other despite our differences, Amerie reminds us of the importance of healthy relationships built on mutual respect and acceptance.

I've loved this woman's music since I was 9 years old. I'm 17 now and still consider myself a fan. Even though she didn't sell many records I apppreciate the fact she didn't sell out to gain popularity. She stayed true to her music and nothing is more important than that.

despite being so underrated at least she is still making albums and credit would go to her fan base. I do not think the media knows how to promote class

David

if she were on beyonce's level you all would be saying that "she's fake" or "she's sold out". but anyways, i love amerie!
