A member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra during her youth, Winehouse signed to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002 and soon recorded a number of songs before signing a publishing deal with EMI. She also formed a working relationship with producer Salaam Remi through these record publishers. Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released in 2003. Many of the album's songs were influenced by jazz and, apart from two covers, were co-written by Winehouse. Frank was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The song "Stronger Than Me" won her the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.
Winehouse released her follow-up album, Back to Black, in 2006, which went on to become an international success and one of the best-selling albums in UK history. At the 2007 Brit Awards it was nominated for British Album of the Year, and she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. The song "Rehab" won her a second Ivor Novello Award. At the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008, she won five awards, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night and becoming the first British woman to win five Grammys, including three of the General Field "Big Four" Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for "Rehab"), as well as Best Pop Vocal Album.
Winehouse was plagued by drug and alcohol addiction. She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. After her death, Back to Black temporarily became the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century. VH1 ranked Winehouse 26th on their list of the 100 Greatest Women in Music.

Amy Winehouse Lyrics

They tried to make me go to rehab
I said, "no, no, no"
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab
I'd rather be at home with a Ray
I ain't got seventy days
'Cause there's nothing, there's nothing you can teach me
That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway
I didn't get a lot in class
But I know we don't come in a shot glass
[Chorus]
The man said, "why do you think you here?"
I said, "I got no idea."
I'm gonna, I'm gonna lose my baby
So I always keep a bottle near
He said, "I just think you're depressed."
This, me, yeah, baby, and the rest
They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said, "no, no, no"
Yes, I been black
But when I come back, you'll know, know, know
I don't ever want to drink again
I just... oh, I just need a friend
I'm not gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I'm on the mend
And it's not just my pride
It's just till these tears have dried
[Chorus]
The song "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse is a poignant plea for understanding and freedom from societal pressures. The song details the struggle of the singer with alcohol addiction and her refusal to go to a rehabilitation center despite her father's constant urging. In the chorus, Winehouse sings about how people have tried to force her to go to rehab, but she vehemently refuses to do so. The repetition of the phrase "no, no, no" emphasizes her defiance and determination to live life on her own terms, even if that means dealing with addiction.
In the second verse, Winehouse sings about her struggle with education and how she hasn't learned much in class, but she knows that alcohol doesn't come in a shot glass. This line highlights her awareness of her addiction and how she recognizes that it's not something that can be easily fixed. She then sings about how she keeps a bottle near because she's going to lose her baby, which could be interpreted as losing herself to the addiction. The man in the song reinforces this interpretation by saying that he thinks she's depressed. The song ends with Winehouse admitting that she doesn't want to drink again, but she just needs a friend to help her through her struggles.
Overall, "Rehab" is a heartbreaking song that highlights the struggles of addiction and societal pressure. It's a poignant reminder that people dealing with addiction need love, support, and understanding instead of being judged and forced into rehabilitation.

I’ve always adored Amy and although it’s very hard to choose just one, I must say that if I had to, this would have to be my favorite live performance of hers.
It’s perfection through and through.
It all came together.
Her stage presence, the set, the lighting, the wicked style, the hair and make-up, the killer vocal and stellar performance both presented with an effortless delivery and in your face confidence. This was/is ICONIC.
So is the soul who embodied it.
Her absence still breaks my heart.
May she forever Rest In Peace.
