Ana Barbara would become a beauty queen before she reached stardom as a singer: in 1988, she became "Miss San Luis Potosí", going on to represent her state in the Miss Universe-sponsored Miss Mexico beauty contest. She lost in her bid to become Miss Mexico, however.
In 1993, Ana Bárbara was proclaimed the "Ambassador of Ranchera Music", and she also earned the Rostro Bonito de El Heraldo ("El Heraldo's Beautiful Face") award. In 1994, she signed with Televisa's musical company, Fonovisa. Under the Fonovisa label, she launched her first CD, the self-titled "Ana Bárbara". Her song, "Sacúdeme" ("Shake Me"), became a hit in Mexico.
Ana Bárbara reached international fame after the death of Mexican-American singer Selena in 1995. When Ana Bárbara's self-titled CD was released to Hispanic listeners in the United States, it was advertised on television as a dedicatory to Selena. A song also named "Selena" was added to the CD prior to its American release.
On November 3 of 2005, Ana Bárbara was awarded a Latin Grammy Award.

No puedo negar que te amo
Coincidir no fue casualidad
Perdernos puede ser un pecado
Olvida todo menos a mí
Una de dos, ¿quieres o no?
Dame tu mano, no dejemos morir
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
Oh, no-oh, eh-eh-eh
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
Oh, no-oh, eh-le-eh
No vas a olvidar
No voy a olvidar el verano
En ese balcón la luna y el sol nos miraron
Coincidir no fue casualidad
Perdernos puede ser un pecado
Olvido todo menos a ti
Una de dos, o quieres o no
Dame tu mano, no dejemos morir
Lo que me das, lo que te doy
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
Oh, no-oh, eh-eh-eh
No dejemos morir
Lo que me das, lo que te doy
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
Ah-ah, ah-ah, no
¿Quieres o no?
Dame tu mano, ah-ah, ah, ah-ah (no dejemos morir)
Lo que me das
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
Oh, no-oh, eh-eh-eh
Si supieras lo que hay aquí
The lyrics of Ana Bárbara's song "No Fue Casualidad" revolve around a love that was not a coincidence between the two people involved. The singer acknowledges that she cannot deny her love for the person she is addressing. Meeting each other was not just a coincidence but rather a series of events that led them to each other. However, losing each other would be a sin, and the singer pleads for forgetting everything else except for her. She asks her partner whether they want to continue the relationship or not and does not want to let their love die. She talks about the mutual love they share and how they both give and take in the relationship. The lyrics contain passion, love, and fear of losing the other person.
The song's music video showcases the singer in different outfits and set-ups, dancing, and singing the song. It has over 2 million views on YouTube. The song was a part of her album "Rompiendo Cadenas" released in 1997. The song was written and produced by Fernando Riba.
