Ana Barbara would become a beauty queen before she reached stardom as a singer: in 1988, she became "Miss San Luis Potosí", going on to represent her state in the Miss Universe-sponsored Miss Mexico beauty contest. She lost in her bid to become Miss Mexico, however.
In 1993, Ana Bárbara was proclaimed the "Ambassador of Ranchera Music", and she also earned the Rostro Bonito de El Heraldo ("El Heraldo's Beautiful Face") award. In 1994, she signed with Televisa's musical company, Fonovisa. Under the Fonovisa label, she launched her first CD, the self-titled "Ana Bárbara". Her song, "Sacúdeme" ("Shake Me"), became a hit in Mexico.
Ana Bárbara reached international fame after the death of Mexican-American singer Selena in 1995. When Ana Bárbara's self-titled CD was released to Hispanic listeners in the United States, it was advertised on television as a dedicatory to Selena. A song also named "Selena" was added to the CD prior to its American release.
On November 3 of 2005, Ana Bárbara was awarded a Latin Grammy Award.

Sin ser invitada
Y sin decir nada
Cruzaste mi puerta
Sin estar abierta
Y entraste en mi cama
De mi pensamiento
Eres mi tormento
Hoy quiero sacarte
Lejos de mi vida
Que no estés aquí
Voy a luchar soledad
Hasta arrancarte de mi alma
Voy a buscar un camino
Enfrentar el destino
Que robo mi calma
Voy a luchar soledad
Hasta que al fin
Te hayas ido
Yo ya no quiero tenerte
Maldita mi suerte
Al cruzar tu camino
Has sido una espina
Clavada en mí pecho
Sin tener derecho
Entraste una noche
Sin ningún reproche
Abriste una herida
Te he llevado dentro
De mis pensamientos
De mis pensamientos
"Soledad, soledad maldigo
Aquel día en que nos conocimos
Soledad, soledad maldita
Mi suerte al cruzar tu camino"
Voy a luchar soledad
Hasta arrancarte de mi alma
Voy a buscar un camino
Enfrentar el destino
Que robo mi calma
The song "Soledad" by Ana Bárbara talks about a relationship that was never invited, never defined, and ended up hurting the singer. She refers to Soledad as an unwanted guest that entered her life and bed, taking over her thoughts and causing her pain. The lyrics describe the struggle to get rid of Soledad and the determination to fight until she can finally be removed from her soul. She even curses the day they met, calling it the day her luck turned.
Throughout the song, Ana Bárbara uses powerful imagery to convey the depth of her pain. She compares Soledad to a thorn that has been stuck in her chest, creating an open wound. She also mentions that the arrival of Soledad was like crossing a closed door, opening something that was meant to be shut in the first place. The lyrics of the chorus highlight her determination to fight Soledad, saying that she will find a way to confront her destiny and take back the peace that was stolen from her.
Overall, "Soledad" is a heartbreaking ballad that portrays the aftermath of a toxic relationship. Ana Bárbara's strong vocal performance adds to the emotional weight of the lyrics, making it a powerful song to listen to for anyone who has been through a similar experience.
