He composed the film scores of Gumshoe and The Odessa File and a setting of the Latin Requiem mass.

His awards include seven Tonys, three Grammys including Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Requiem, seven Oliviers, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, two International Emmys, the Praemium Imperiale, the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre, a BASCA Fellowship and the Kennedy Center Honor.

He currently owns six London theatres, including the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and the London Palladium.

Can you remember the song that you heard that first awakened your love and appreciation for music? Y'know, THAT song?
This is that song for me.
I saw it as young girl on a PBS special and walked into the room as this scene came on, and I was entranced. I have no recollection of the rest of the play, but this song always stuck with me and still makes me cry to this day. Deeply emotional and meaningful lyrical music has been a passion of mine ever since. Thank you Andrew Lloyd Weber and Elaine Paige ❤️

I first heard it as a melody from a music box my mom had. I didn't know what the song was but I'd rewind that box over and over to listen to that 30 second melody. It took 20 years before I found it again. The pure joy I felt when I first came across this video was indescribable.

@Milli W I kinda understand what you are trying to say. Similar to mental illness this song gives you feelings of mixed emotions to the point that you don't know which one to stick with but yet you feel them all. Yes I agree with the other comments that mental illnesses are definitely not beautiful but think of it as having a small moment of happiness to only have it suddenly replaced with some sort of sadness. Tbh you should have picked a different metaphor to compare with this song especially since you many not have any first hand experience to truly see any sort of "similarities" but I kinda get where you were trying to go with it. Honestly, I don't have any first hand experience of it either so maybe what I am seeing is also wrong but to each his own.

I'd have been about your Dad's age and I still have a crush on Jemima, though I mostly keep that to myself. Veerle Casteleyn was the youngest member of the cast, since her character is supposed to be a kitten of course. Ever since Sarah Brightman played Jemima in the first West End production (and Broadway), the role typically goes to female performers with strikingly large eyes, as it gives the impression of innocence. Can't fault the casting in this film version...It's fair to say that Veerle has become the fan's firm favourite Jemima as a result. It's a pity the role was more or less relegated to the background in the unforgettable (for the wrong reasons) 2019 movie version. Since the Broadway production, American audiences have always known Jemima as Sillabub, due to the name Jemima having negative racial conotations over there.

My Auntie brought me to the Plaza Hotel in NY City & Cats the musical. A male cat cast member came up & rubbed on my leg I was in the isle. I didn't know what to do ? My Auntie Maureen wacked that cat cast member with the program, WHOOSH !!! Thr last time I saw or heard a wack like that it was My Auntie's little brother My DADDY wacking Tania his Doberman for snapping at my younger sister. 1 wack, use a paper or magazine, 1 wack thr sound & GOD backing U is All U will ever need to make that lasting impression of DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT CROSSING THAT LINE AGAIN !!
