There is one way to prevent being bitter, and it is written in Hebrews 12:15.

I don't wanna be bitter, bitter, bitter

Feels like you was kicked in your midsection,
Rejection causes a deep emotional pain that feels like a physical blow to the stomach.

When you feel like you simply just lost your best friend,
Rejection can cause someone to feel like they have lost a close friend or loved one.

Everybody play the game of love you [?],
Everyone must navigate the complexity of love and the possibility of rejection.

You start thinking she's chillin' with other men, and you gettin' jealous, start beefing, and harboring harsh resentment,
Rejection can lead to feelings of jealousy, conflict, and a strong desire for revenge.

I'm asking Jesus to keep me from being bitter, go skeeming on twitter, get mad and post it on my statuses,
The artist is praying to Jesus to prevent him from reacting with bitterness and anger on social media.

Bitterness can make a heart numb,
Holding onto bitterness can cause someone to become emotionally numb or disconnected.

But hope is like a star you don't see it shine bright until the dark come,
Hope can be hard to see in the midst of darkness and pain, but it is always there.

So don't just scoop the dust, remove the rug,
Don't just ignore the problem, but actively work to remove bitterness from your heart.

If I got unforgiveness in my heart, then there really ain't no room for love,
Holding onto bitterness prevents someone from being able to give and receive love fully.

Plus it's stupid cause, I've been so forgiven,
Holding onto bitterness is foolish because the artist has been forgiven so much by God.

That if I hold a grudge, I don't show He's risen,
Holding a grudge is contrary to the message of Jesus' resurrection and forgiveness.

But I know my sins removed since Jesus came,
The artist understands that his sins have been forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus.

With no reason to forgive me but He did so I do the same
God forgave the artist despite having no obligation to, and the artist seeks to extend that same forgiveness to others.

Sometimes things just happen in life that don't make any sense, but, bitterness is a choice
Life can be unpredictable and unfair, but the choice to hold onto bitterness is within someone's control.

Yeah, I gotta tread softly,
The artist recognizes the need to approach the issue of bitterness with care.

Don't wanna be a hypocrite plus I got some bitterness I wanna get up off me,
The artist doesn't want to come across as a hypocrite for speaking against bitterness while struggling with it himself.

Where should I start, well I feel like I'd be sorta frontin',
The artist is unsure of where to begin in the process of overcoming bitterness and feels disingenuous for advising others while struggling himself.

To say that when my father calls that I don't hit ignore button,
The artist is honest about his tendency to ignore phone calls from his father.

It's probably cause we never kicked it at a younger age,
The artist and his father had a strained relationship when he was younger, which has continued into adulthood.

I know when he's calling but I don't have got his number saved,
The artist deliberately avoids saving his father's number in his phone to make it easier to ignore his calls.

I keep dodging him but I'm just being honest,
The artist admits that he is avoiding his father's calls deliberately.

All he wanna do is talk football and how I should play in college,
The artist feels disconnected from his father because their interests and focuses in life are different.

I get bitter, kinda cold like the winter,
The artist feels bitterness and emotional detachment from his father.

It's so hard for me to forgive him then I remember that I'm a sinner,
The artist recognizes that he himself has been forgiven for his own mistakes and sins, which helps him approach his relationship with his father with more grace and forgiveness.

And Jesus forgave me and washed away my sins,
The artist acknowledges that his forgiveness and cleansing come from God.

When I didn't deserve it then I could forgive him,
The artist extends forgiveness to his father as an act of grace, even though his father may not have 'deserved' it.

His power in such amazing love like when Jesus forgave the ones that pinned him up on that cross as he was hanging from it,
God's love and forgiveness are so powerful because they extend even to those who have hurt or wronged us, just like Jesus forgave those who crucified him.

Holy Spirit, teach me to be just like the Son,
The artist appeals to the Holy Spirit to help him emulate the character of Jesus in his life.

Remove the roots of bitterness don't stop until your work is done
The artist asks God to help him eradicate the underlying causes of bitterness in his heart, persisting until the work is complete.
