Anna Calvi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Morning light
Morning light
Morning light
Morning light
All my life

But you never be in love
But you never be in love
But you never be in love
But you never be in love

I stand in the day for my feeling to rise
All my life
But you never be in love
But you never be in love
No lies in wait
Now thy day lies in wait
Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin
Morning light
Morning light
Morning light
All my life

But you never be in love
But you never be in love
Farewell rise in the morning goodbye

Morning light
Morning light
Morning light
All my life

But you never be in love
But you never be in love
But you never be in love

But you never be in love
Farewell rise in the morning goodbye

Overall Meaning

The song "Morning Light" by Anna Calvi revolves around the theme of unrequited love. The repetition of "Morning Light" at the beginning of each verse may represent a hope of a new day and a new opportunity for love, but the following lines paint a picture of disappointment and unfulfilled desires. The line "But you never be in love" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the pain of loving someone who will not or cannot return those feelings.

The chorus of the song repeats the same lines as the beginning of the song, but with a sense of finality in the line "Farewell rise in the morning goodbye." This may imply a sense of resignation or acceptance that the relationship will never work out.

The line "Rob from always on the run is so bad and copy paste is a sin" is a reference to the David Bowie song "Joe the Lion" and may symbolize the idea that stealing or copying someone else's love does not lead to true happiness.

Overall, "Morning Light" is a melancholic and heartfelt song about the pain of unrequited love and the struggle to let go.

Saw them at Manchester Cathedral in Nov 2011. A truly amazing gig. When they played morning light, its was spine tingling. 8 years later its still as good. Stunning song

Something many rock and pop musicians pay little attention to is the importance of the dynamics can play in a song. The Beatles fully understood as did The Who. Here comes the female [VERY] musician I'd compare with Townsend as a band leader but with a beautiful voice and balls like Lennon or Hendrix. Love her.

I knew I would like this, once I saw the harmonium!
