Tribute To Linn
Anna Ternheim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The past two years have made a change
You are barely on my mind
Saying goodbye sure takes time
Today, you should turn 25
With your best time flying by
And all prepared to conquer life
We get no answers from the past
No, how the fire spread so fast
But New Year's Eve
All turned black
Sometimes you're lucky
Sometimes you're not
In Anna Ternheim's song "Tribute to Linn," the singer reflects on the sudden death of a friend named Linn. The opening lines describe how waking up feels different now that Linn is gone, as the past two years have brought significant change to the singer's life. Despite the passage of time, Linn is still present in the singer's thoughts, and saying goodbye has been a slow and difficult process.
The next stanza alludes to Linn's birthday, which she would have celebrated at age 25. The singer acknowledges that Linn's potential has been cut short, and she is now unable to fulfill her dreams or discover what the future may hold. The final lines of the song mourn the fact that tragedy strikes without warning or explanation; the cause of Linn's death and the speed at which it occurred remain unanswered questions.
Overall, "Tribute to Linn" is a poignant and heartfelt reflection on the grief and confusion that comes with losing a friend too soon. Through her lyrics, Anna Ternheim captures the bittersweet feeling of holding onto memories while also struggling to move forward in the face of tragedy.
