Never sounded so good
Even though I know we're no good
I forget about the pain
You're damn right
We've been on and off for too long
Even though I know it's so wrong
Bad times
Never sounded so good
Even though I know we're no good
I forget about the pain
You're damn right
We've been on and off for too long
Even though I know it's so wrong
Still I feel the same
The loneliness reminds you
That everything fades
You said that life is strange
With all the mess behind you
It's better that way
You said our love could change
To have you in my arms
When all is said and done
To have you in my arms
Make believe we've just begun
Bad times...
Bad times
Never sounded so good
Even though I know we're no good
I forget about the pain
You're damn right
We've been on and off for too long
Even though I know it's so wrong
Still I feel the same
The loneliness reminds you
That everything fades
You said that life is strange
With all the mess behind you
It's better that way
You said our love could change
Bad times...
In Annie's song "Bad Times," the lyrics capture the complicated emotions of being in a toxic and ongoing relationship. The singer acknowledges that they are aware that things are not good between them, even though they seem to find comfort in the familiarity of the bad times. The repetition of the line "bad times never sounded so good" emphasizes this conflicting feeling of being attracted to the chaos.
Despite knowing that they should break away from this relationship, the singer admits to feeling the same and not being able to let go. The pain of loneliness lingers, but it's overcome by the temporary relief that comes from being with their partner. It's clear that the singer is conflicted by their feelings, as they try to hold on to what they know isn't right for them.
The chorus repeats the same lyrics, highlighting the cyclical nature of their relationship. The bridge offers some hope for change, but it's unclear if it'll come to fruition. Ultimately, the song captures the emotional turmoil and struggle of wanting to hold on to something that isn't good for you.
