It Snows in Heaven Too
Annie Haslam Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why am I so blue
Then a quiet thought of you
Calls me too
Hoping that it's reaching you
Are you real or in my mind
Hearts may know the truth
Sets me free now I see
And you are real to me
Tides we don't understand
Draw you near
Feeling closer to you
Now I feel you
Soft white flakes caress my face
On this winter's day
I feel your love surrounding me
Surely it could only be
It snows in Heaven
It snows in Heaven too
Annie Haslam's song, It Snows in Heaven Too, reflects on the emotional turmoil of the holiday season - a time when many people feel lonely and in need of companionship. The opening lines, "Christmas comes but once a year, Why am I so blue" set the melancholic tone for the rest of the song. The singer is struggling with feelings of isolation and sadness during this time of year, but there is a glimmer of hope in the form of an imagined or remembered lover.
The second verse, "Are you real or in my mind, Hearts may know the truth" suggests that the singer is not entirely sure whether their lover is real or just a figment of their imagination. However, they take comfort in the idea that "Feeling you are part of me, Sets me free now I see, And you are real to me", indicating that the emotional connection is more important than the physical presence.
The final verse, "Soft white flakes caress my face, On this winter's day, I feel your love surrounding me, Surely it could only be, It snows in Heaven, It snows in Heaven too" is a beautiful image of the singer feeling the love of their absent lover in the snow. The idea that it "snows in Heaven too" suggests that their partner may have passed away and is watching over them from the afterlife, adding a bittersweet layer to the song.
