Zeven brieven uit dat ver land
Maar een antwoord heb ik nooit gekregen
Eenzaam sta ik aan het stile strand.
Iedere keer denk ik weer
Ach, waarom doe jij m'n hart zo'n pijn
The lyrics to Arne Jansen's song "Zeven brieven" tell the story of someone who has written seven letters to a person they love who is far away, but has never received a response. The writer stands alone on the quiet beach, watching ships come and go, longing for their love to return to them. They question why their heart is being hurt by the lack of response and why their love no longer wants to be with them. Despite the pain, they still hold on to the hope that their love will return, and they pledge to keep waiting.
The beautifully written song explores the themes of heartbreak, unrequited love, and the longing for connection. The repetition of the two main lines "Zeven brieven heb ik jou geschreven" and "Eenzaam sta ik aan het stille strand" emphasizes the loneliness and isolation felt by the writer. The use of the beach and the images of ships leaving and arriving serves as a metaphor for the passing of time and the uncertainty of waiting for a response.
Overall, the song is a poignant reminder that sometimes love is not enough, and that distance and time can cause even the strongest of connections to fade away.
