Though you're gone I can't forget
Right or wrong I'll keep on dreaming
Still I wake with that same ol' regret
And all along I thought I'd lose you
And still I prayed that you'd be true
In your heart please just remember
Right or wrong I'm still in love with you
Ahhh-haaaw!
Oh, play it for me
Oh, yeah!
Oh, right or wrong I'll always love you
Though you're gone I can't forget
Right or wrong I'll keep on dreamin'
Still I wake with the some ol' regrets
And all along I thought I'd lose you
And still I prayed that you'd be true, Lord, Lord
In your heart, please just remember
Right or wrong I'm still in love with you oh-oh, oh, oh
The Asleep at the Wheel song, "Right or Wrong," is a sad ballad about a love that has ended but the singer still loves the person who has left them. The opening line, "Right or wrong I'll always love you," sets the stage for the rest of the song. The singer is saying that no matter what happened, they will always love this person. Even though the person is gone, the singer cannot forget them and continues to dream about them. The line "Still I wake with that same ol' regret" suggests that the singer has some feelings of regret about the relationship, and perhaps wishes they could have done something differently.
As the song progresses, the singer reveals that they always thought they would lose their love, and they prayed that the person would remain true. So the sadness and longing expressed in the earlier lines are mixed with feelings of anxiety and insecurity about the relationship. The closing line, "Right or wrong I'm still in love with you," is a powerful statement of devotion, despite everything that has happened.
