On the Summer Solstice
Aspidistrafly Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I point towards the light
That is beyond my reach
Fallen leaf comingled with the sun
Set in glowing emptiness
On the edge of time
Waking to sunshine
The other side of light
Was a sad blue sky
Of unreachable feelings
Where is tomorrow going
Where endings becoming beginnings
On the summer solstice
I hold a wish for you
The lyrics of Aspidistrafly's song "On the Summer Solstice" are reflective of the changing seasons and the emotions that come with it. The singer of the song is holding fast, struggling against the cloudy sky to reach towards the light which is beyond their grasp. The imagery of the fallen leaf comingled with the sun sets it in glowing emptiness, highlighting the fleeting nature of time. The singer is awakened to the soft blooms of pale pink in the morning, but is confronted with a sad blue sky of unreachable feelings. The lyrics express a loss of direction and uncertainty about the future, as the singer wonders where tomorrow is going and where endings are becoming beginnings. On the summer solstice, a time of rebirth and renewal, the singer holds a wish for someone, perhaps representing a hope for a new beginning or a longing for a lost love.
