Torrentially Cutshaw
At the Drive-In Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Under the mask of a UAV
Frayed the husk of an ivory pawn
Sickles in the ice froze a game of chess
Convinced she's a carrion moth

Drone to the bishop swapping in spit
The tallest blade of glass menagerie
Starved by remote and implant stations

2,000 collars to the roaches
2,000 monochrome lifers
2,000 tastes of pure captigon
2,000 torrentially cutshaw

They paved my memories complacent
Endowed in the zero year
With a hush for every outburst
A chronic crawl to arms awaits
Do we eliminate the source of the courtesan livestock
The last torrential implant station

2,000 collars to the roaches
2,000 monochrome lifers
2,000 tastes of pure captigon
2,000 torrentially cutshaw

The truth will age you
You don't even want to know
Anesthetize you
You don't even want to know
Defibrillated handles loitering

Room 39 with due diligence
You can't afford it
If you pull me out by remote again
You can't afford it
You can't afford it
You can't afford

2,000 collars to the roaches
2,000 monochrome lifers

2,000 tastes of pure captigon
2,000 torrentially cutshaw

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of "Torrentially Cutshaw" by At the Drive-In, the lyrics paint a vivid image of a dystopian world where technology dominates and controls individuals. The reference to a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and a chess game suggests a power struggle, with one side being portrayed as a pawn being manipulated by external forces. The mention of a carrion moth alludes to decay and death, hinting at a sense of hopelessness and inevitability in this society.

The second verse delves deeper into the oppressive nature of this world, highlighting the dehumanization and control exerted over its inhabitants. The imagery of collars on roaches and monochrome lifers conveys a sense of imprisonment and conformity. The mention of captigon, a fictional substance, hints at a numbing agent that suppresses any resistance or dissent. The repetition of "2,000 torrentially cutshaw" emphasizes the magnitude of this oppressive regime and the widespread suffering it causes.

As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on themes of memory, manipulation, and resistance. The singer reflects on how their memories have been subdued and controlled, hinting at a pervasive propaganda or censorship system. The chronic crawl to arms suggests a slow buildup of rebellion or defiance against the status quo. The reference to eliminating the source of livestock implies a violent suppression of dissent and individuality, further highlighting the harsh reality of this society.

In the final verses, the lyrics shift to a more personal and introspective tone. The mention of aging, anesthesia, and defibrillation suggests a sense of numbing and detachment from reality. The refusal to be pulled out by remote control symbolizes a resistance to being controlled or manipulated. The repetition of "You can't afford it" underscores the high cost of defiance and the risks involved in challenging the oppressive forces at play. Overall, "Torrentially Cutshaw" paints a bleak and dystopian picture of a society where control, manipulation, and resistance intersect in a complex web of power dynamics and individual struggles.

Best song on the album, hands down.

Dex Starr

Call Broken Arrow is so powerful though, I'd say this is the #2 or #3, and yeah, this truly is ATDI, people are weird when it comes to nostalgia though, just let them be I guess.

Franco Lobos muñoz

incurably innocent is by far, the best song❤

Zach Heath

For sure. To anyone bitching about this album, I don't know what you're talking about. Sounds like classic ATDI to me, and it kicks ass. Maybe turn the volume up a little?

BooYahCubes

This song is so AWESOME! As is the rest of the album! This sounds like it could easily fit in to In/Casino/Out

HeavyProfessor

Show me a record from the last 17 years that sounds even remotely like this...

HeavyProfessor

Dave Fucking Grohl I checked out Joliette...great stuff. It reminds me a lot of Glassjaw.

HeavyProfessor

Nicholas Fernandez please share the names of a few. I don't typically listen to shitty alternative.

Nicholas Fernandez

Sure , that'll be every shitty Alternative album in the past 17 years .

DaveBits

I'd suggest Joliette, they're a Mexican post-hardcore band. Their album Principia is pretty solid imo. Doesn't beat ATDI though
