While ARS would never reach the commercial success of Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Marshall Tucker Band, the group had a strong following in the south and charted a number of hits such as "Imaginary Lover," "I'm Not Going to Let it Bother Me Tonight," "Champagne Jam," "So Into You," and a remake of a Classics IV hit, "Spooky."
The band also influenced a number of rock and country artists, notably Travis Tritt, who recorded a cover of the ARS songs, "Back Up Against the Wall" and "Homesick." The group Shudder to Think covered "So Into You."
Normal Love
Atlanta Rhythm Section Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I need some normal love
Not a sickness, nor madness
Just an everyday affair
But just like an old fashion love song
These days it's rare
Outer space
These days that's commonplace
It's the passion of the day
Caught up in that old cosmic circle
So out of place
Normal love
Make it sweet, make it simple
Ooh, that's what I need
Just a smile, just a kiss
Normalness
What a twist
I need your normalness
I'd forget you if I could
And normally I would
But just like an old family portrait, you're one of a kind
And in these crazy time I need, your normal love
The Atlanta Rhythm Section's song Normal Love expresses the need for simplicity and normalcy in a relationship. The singer admits to being caught up in the hype of modern love and desires to return to a traditional and uncomplicated form of love. The lyrics suggest that modern relationships are often complicated, whereas the "normal" kind of love is straightforward and easy to manage. The line, "I'd forget you if I could, and normally I would" hints at the struggles of modern love and the challenges people face in maintaining normalcy in their relationships.
The song also touches on the idea that there isn't much room for old-fashioned love songs in today's world. Instead, people seem to be more concerned with outer space and other modern advancements. The lyrics suggest that while society is quickly evolving and moving forward, people still long for the simplicity and normalcy of the past.
Overall, Normal Love is a song about wanting more from a relationship than what the modern world sometimes offers. It's a call for simplicity, normalcy and a return to traditional values.
