Secondly he admitted guilt and knowledge of the act. Insane as a legal term relies upon the defendant being entirely out of his conscious and sane mind so his admittance that he was aware completely destroys that defense.

I love how you watch him escalate. Jon Bernthal captured it perfectly and anyone who’s ever worked in the psych or behavioral fields would know it. He starts by asking the judge permission and just slowly lets that rage burn and burn until he yells, then acts out and ultimately has to be restrained because at that point he is beyond calming and is truly capable of anything. It really speaks to the fact that he truly is an unhinged person, that when he has goes down that line Frank Castle truly is no more and that only the Punisher remains. Amazing acting by Bernthal!!!!!

I read somewhere that Bernthal separated himself from his family completely during filming of this season, just to get his mindset closer to Frank Castles own. You can really see through this season that he draws from those emotions and because of it, he absolutely nails the Punisher.

I think this is what was missing in Marvel movies and tv shows: moments of real emotion shown by the characters. This monologue just keeps building up and it is perfect. I would have loved to see one of these monologues performed by Robert Downey Jr. in one of his many movies as Iron Man. He would have nailed it because he is an amazing actor.
